Is this knife decent enough for the money? I have a Gerber Paraframe II right now and I thought I'd get another knife. Nothing top fo the line or expensive, but a step up from my Gerber.

Does anyone have any info about this knife? I searched a little bit and saw the steel may not be the highest quality, but I'm not really sure of much else. Thanks.

For what its worth, AUS8 isn't such a bad steel. From my reading, what most people found with the E-Lock knives was a concern that they'd disengage the lock accidentally while using the knife. I'm not sure if anyone really had a problem in actual use, it was just a common concern voiced with a few people.

For the money, I think I'd do one of two things:

1. look at the new Kershaws coming out early next month (or so)- like the Junkyard Dawg and the Groove- both good knives with good steel and expected to have good ergos.

or

2. Wait until the new CRKT knives come out and pick up one of the new knives by Allen with the Button Lock and Auto-LAWKS.

Good luck, and let us know what you end up with.

Thanks. I can wait a little longer I suppose. I was just looking around and I found some unique-ish looking knives from brands that I have heard of before so I liked this one. I'll see what the new ones look like though, I don't want some plain looking knife. Need a mix of good functionality and originality.

If you're looking to spend not a lot but still want a quality folder check out the Byrd line from Spyderco , or if you really want to upgrade get a Spyderco Native , Walmart has them for under $40 , fantastic knife.

I too like CRKT but I would shop around for better prices.

Like this byrd? I like that way that looks as well. Not quite as much as the CRKT but it's still nice looking.

I like half serrated but the Natives seem to have too much.

Yea , that Byrd is nice , the only drawback IMO is steel handles are slippery.

They don't make a Native with a half serrated blade do they? I'll have to check Spyderco's web site I suppose.

I probably shouldn't make a new reply and just edit but I thought I would just do this to ask a new question.

The CRKT that I posted is AUS8, but what about the Byrd Cara Cara? All it says on their site is "8Cr13MoV" for blade steel, so how does that compare? I wish they made a higher end of the Byrd and kept its looks but maybe used the same quality as the Native, I really like the look of the Byrd.

I also like the ATR C70BK but I'm not sure how the serration is.

EDIT: Just saw it's mostly serration. Bah.

I like my starlight- I have had no problem with edge retention, lock failure ect. The only thing I have found is that the bead blast finish has started to collect moisture and small speckles of rust are now on the blade. Many people on the forum have very strong feelings against CRKT but they do make good blades for the money. This is not saying anyhing against the other choices given to you but IMO if this is the knife that caught your attention then you should get it (and I agree to get a replacement for the paraframe- I have never thought any of the ones I have seen were acceptable for carry- but just my opinion)

Well I was actually leaning toward the Byrd Cara Cara now. It sounds like it's better quality and has better steel even though it's $40 cheaper the the CRKT.

Can anyone respond to my #8 post?

I guess what I'd like to know now is would you get the Cara Cara or the Starlight?

Get two G-10 cara cara's I have one and it can do anything that you throw at it.... better quality too... in my opinion.....

Both are good steels. , a higher end Byrd would be defeating the purpose of the Byrd line of knives, bear in mind they are made in The Republic but are top notch knives for the money.
Honestly I would shoot for the Native or a Byrd , wait till someone puts a special an the CRKT.
Don't let naysayers poop on you if you like CRKT , some folks have had negative experiences with CRKT and others just like to bitch if a knife costs under $400.00.
The man idea is if you like the knife and it serves your purposes.
If you have never held a Native , go to Walmart and ask to see one , they really are a fantastic deal - awesome steel , very solid and a lock the makes that wonderful "Snick!!" we all love to hear.

Thanks, but I really don't like having a knife that is mostly serrated, and I want some serration. The Native seems to me 85% serrated.

What about this one though?

EDIT: Upon searching more, I see it's a good knife. If I wanted the black one I'd have to pick the $70 option at the link right? I've been looking around and can't really find it for a lower price right now.

The two steels are pretty close in composition. Question would be how good the heat treat was.

A lot of people have reported good results with AUS 8 and its Chinese cousins (BM uses a similar chinese steel). Sharpens easily, takes a very good edge, holds it pretty well, though maybe not as well as 440C, AUS10, or VG10.

Ok thanks. I'm still assuming the Griptillian has better steel and is built better than both right?

I can't say anything good or bad about crkt knives, I've never had one. I have not really heard anything bad about the byrds.. Might be a great choice to see if you like it.. Won't cost much money, and if its like the rest of the Spyderco knives they really grow on you.. Mini grip is also a great knife.
As others have said, do your research and buy what YOU like, not what others think you should like....
