CRKT Elishewitz Scarab - Opinions? Reviews?

I've been looking for a new pocket knife, something with a bit of color to it, and I've found the look of the CRKT Scarab appealing.(Actually, I like the coloring and handle shaping of the Horus better, but I dislike the compound bevels) Now, I'm aware that CRKT isn't exactly a favorite of a lot of people, but I was wondering if anyone has seen and or handled one, and would be willing to answer a few questions for me. I've tried to do my due diligence and searched for reviews or anything on them, but I've come up with nil, so hopefully someone can help. I've also checked with my local knife shop and they didn't have any for me to examine, so I turn to you, the informed forum public.

- I've only seen views of the knife from one side, and I know a lot of the CRKT's are chisel ground; so, is this one? I'd like to hope not, but I know I shouldn't hope too much at it's price point.
-Your general impression of the knife, does it fit well in the hand (if you handled it), does it seem like it would catch on clothing and such?
-The only thing I've found myself disliking about the knife is the bead blasted finish. I'm pretty new at this whole knife modding thing, and was curious as to how hard it is to remove the finish and give it a nice satin polish, instead?
-And lastly, is there something of a comparable style in the >$100 dollar price point that you might recommend?

Thank you for taking the time to read this and help out a new guy!

Well, I'm not the -most- knowledgeable, but I can tell you a few things that I notice about it.

Overall, looks good to me;

Tip looks strong enough to handle light prying, blade design looks great (I hate bowie-like grinds on folders.. you don't need weight at the front of the blade -.- ), seems to have the right shape and control for a lot of daily cutting tasks, handle looks GREAT, overall design looks very good to me. AUS 8 steel is good steel too. Looks like a great self defense knife as well (so does the Horus -drool-), I'll probably buy one of those sometime soon, thanks for showing it! :D

I notice the thumb stud is right handed only, am not sure if that's a concern for you. The small gold inlay seems to get in the way when cutting thick material (that the whole blade's width will go through the material).

Other than that, I only own one CRKT Point Guard Plain Edge, AUS6. So far, so good, but I haven't used it hard (apples, paper, tin wrap, etc.)

It just seems like one of those handles cheap knock offs use in order to try and look fancy. Is it that bowling ball material?

I have three E-Lock CRKT Elishewitz knives.
A very good lock
AUS8
All excellent knives
One has a flipper with aluminum handles, and is very light to carry and very fast to open.
The other two have steel handles with a plastic type insert, a bit heavy, but very solid knives.
On these the ramp instead of a stud are not place exactly in the right place, but I wrist flip them open easily.
I paid a lot less than retail price on eBay.

So if the Scarab is as good as these, it is good.

At the store I work at we've had 4 of these. Out of them, 3 had cracked scales straight out of the box! Always in the same place, too: both sides, center scale screw, all the way across. They're doing something very wrong if they can get bowling ball material to crack 3 times out of 4. Also they have a weak spring, but that's not as big of a concern as VERY low QC. Not impressed.

FortyTwoBlades-
Wow, thanks! I'm glad I found that sort of thing out before I ordered one... That would have been a major disappointment.

I'm not looking for a heavy duty knife, but more of something that I can EDC for a lot of basic everyday tasks (plastic, cardboard, paper) that has more than two colors to it.

Well, I played with it in the shop. My impressions: it seemed sturdy, and I also think it looks a little ... vulgar. A show-off design (those handles!) that seems the idea of a marketing department studying impressionable teenagers looking for a cool knife. As I haven't cut anything with it, I cannot comment on that.

Well, then they did an alright job on this impressionable teen looking for a cool knife :D

It's sounding like if I can find one to inspect first hand, it might not be a bad buy for me, but certainly not something to purchase online where the QC slip might fall through easier. Any tell-tale signs other than obvious cracking I should look for when checking it out, or any other recommendations for a somewhat colorful and vulgar person looking for a knife to match? :p

Also, Dagon or FortyTwoBlades,
Could either of you anser my question about the grind on the Scarab? I've not found one yet to handle, and if it's chisel-ground, I'm not even going to bother pursuing it further.
