I'm interested in the first strike and wondering if it's possible to change the handle to the one like the strider's. Is there enough holes in the tang to wrap cord and make it look like the strider's handle? Has anyone tried this? Please tell me. Sorry if this was talked before.:o

I'm sure you could easily take off the existing material and I'm pretty sure there some holes in the handle for the cord , however if there are none you could always add your own with a dremel bit.

Why? I got a first strike awhile ago and the only thing I liked about it was the handle, though im a bit partial to the cord wrap in general anyways. The blade was too thick, came dull, and would not take an edge no matter how much I tried to sharpen it. Thing was more like a prybar than anything else. Oh, and the sheath wasnt very sturdy and left scratches all over the blade. I might have gotten a bad one..

Agree!!! You may wish to reconsider. I had a first strike (large and small) and was very disappointed in both knives. They have what is called an "apple seed grind" (convex grind) and I found them next to impossible to get sharp. And if I was lucky enough to get an edge, being made of AUS-6M, it sure didn't last very long. I have noticed on the the CRKT website that they are now made from 440A which might be just a little bit better, but not much.

And if you do buy one, why in the world would you want to spend the time and money to change the handle? That was the only positive thing about the knife. The handle had great grip and was very authentic. Spend that extra money on a different fixed blade tanto made with better steel.

I like the cord wrapped handle better than the one that comes with with it. Maybe I should look for something like that from Strider knives, but they don't have any silver blades. Thank you all for your answers. I think I'll try that anyway.

i have cord wrapped a couple of knives handles and ya dont have to have any holes FWIW,

I had one of the original first strikes (POS) It would not hold an edge even if you could get one and the epoxy soak on the cord was soft. But I got one of the new ones in a trade and it takes and holds an edge. Also the epoxy soak is done right on my new one. Still not a great knife and just sits around but it is much better then the first releases were.

I keep mine around just to have around. Too thick for most things but I like the wrap. Got on a Big 5 sale last summer. One of those impulse things.

I was disappointed with my Fist Strike for similar reasons. The knife looks cool but from a functional point of view it is useless. I wouldn't even call it a sharpened prybar because it came without an edge that deserves this name. Probably it was designed for stabbing only. If so, I would have preferred a more ergonomic handle. The handle was much too slim for me to provide a secure grip although the cord warp was nice.
