I just bought a first strike and am pretty pleased with it execpt for that handle. I want to remove that "cord" and wrap it my self with some paracord that can be taken off if need be. I was just wondering is there was a solvent that would remove the epoxy without harming the steel, or do I just cut off as much of the cord as possiable then try to sand the rest off without scratching the steel under the cord handle. This is the first time that will be attemting something like this, so any ideas or links are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You might try some acetone. I just picked up a First Strike Military version a couple weeks ago and like it.

Thats kinda what im thinking, I really don't wanna have to use any sandpaper or anything abrasive in fear of scratching it up.

Sandpaper will slip and scratch it, I would try acetone, then if that don't do it, go buy some automotive lacquer thinner. The lacquer thinner will take it off, and not mess up the steel. I'm not sure I would soke it in it, but i know you can get it real wet with it then wipe it off. I have done so, in my bodyshop.

Acetone aka nail polish remover will dissolve epoxy and so will paint remover. You'll have to soak it for a good while, overnight or even longer is good. If you put it in a glass and cover it over with foil that will slow down evaporation.
