Eloquent.

How well does the pocket clip hold? Is it easy to draw and replace?

Is the pivot smooth?

Did the blade come sharp out of the box? (CRKT is not known for it)

How does the handle feel? My guess is that it is going to be difficult to change your grip, or you're going to get hot spots.

Is the liner easy to work?

Since it's a first production run, I suppose you don't have too many plans to use it. But I'm still curious....

Its kind of the First Production.

From A. G. Russell:
It was CRKT's intention to produce this model with a gloss black raised surface and matte black fingergrooves. That proved to not work well in production. After producing only 65 of each the plain edge and a combo edge, they decided to produce the knife with handle scales that are completely matte black, including the fingergrooves. Those 130 knives will be the only ones produced with the contrasting gloss and matte scales. We made the two knives available in our weekly e-mail special on June 13, and at the time of this writing the plain edge is nearly sold out. (Is now sold out.)
A few of the combo blade are still available from AG.

I kind of consider that the real First Production, though I suppose one could call it a prototype, though you don't usually do 130 prototypes of the same thing.

No real reason not to use either. Its unlikely any CRKT is going to become a collectible and increase in value.
I picked up one of the first First Production with plain edge. I like Ken Onions designs and the IKBS. The fact that it was a very limited variation was just a plus. Doubt I would ever be able to sell it for a profit, but it might be a tad easier to break even on it if I decide to get rid of it.

I held it at A.G. Russell's. I wasn't a fan of the fingergrooves. They don't work well for me. Big heavy duty knife that's for sure. And very smooth as well.

I recently bought this knife and noticed once I received it that it is marked "first production" and has the matte handle just like the one in the OP.
If I understand correctly the First Productions have Acuto+ and the rest have AUS8.

But the "real" First Productions have smooth handles, so I'm confused as to which steel I have.

So my question is, does mine and the one in the OP have Acuto+ or AUS8?

All of the Foresights have AUS8. Amost every one you buy says First Production currently. I love mine. The handle isn't for everyone, but it fits me well. Super sharp, IKBS at it's best, and al Ken Onion! Love it! BTW, use it! They made too many to ever be collectible for years to come, and at 75-100, I highly doubt it ever will be that collectible. Mine's a user, and great. I love CRKT, but never put too much worry in not using their first productions. They are a mass market brand. It's like marking first edition on a Kia. Nifty and all, but won't ever make it a Viper.

Gets confusing don't it?

I agree with jimh0220 it is likely AUS8. Thats the way CRKT and AG are currently describing it.

The First First Production, or First Production Type I, or whatever we want to call it, that I described above, was listed briefly on AG's site as being "Acuto 440", but it wouldn't surprise me if it was AUS8 too.
The only difference that was mentioned was the handles.

 I'd never pay a premium to get a CRKT First Production. I did make a little extra effort to get the First First Production, but paid exactly the same amount they are still going for. I just sort of wanted the early variation.
Doubt it will ever sell for a premium, even though its considerably rarer than the current First Productions.
CRKT uses that label a bit too freely, but it doesn't annoy me nearly as much as every Ripple being just called Ripple, regardless of Aluminum or Stainless Steel handle and other differences. Even the new version has the same name.

Is it just me or have you guys noticed the uptick of late in the overall quality of CRKT? My latest edc is a CRKT "Otanashi Noh Ken" Yes it is AUS-8. However it is a very nice blade.

Actually it's almost got the same design as the Tyrades by Kershaw. NIce knife, how thick is the liner?

Thanks for the replies!

It will definitely be used.
I bought it strictly for an EDC and was just curious about the steel.
It's bigger than I'm used to carrying but sofar it isn't bothering me. :-)

For that knife to be any more Ken Onion, it would have to be purple and orange.

I like it (despite my hatred for sharpening re-curves).

Just an FYI.

I had emailed CRKT about the blade steel before I posted here and this is there response.

Thank you for contacting us. I have had to contact our product development team to see what our first productions where made out of. The first run was made of the Acuto+ steel but the handles are almost a two tone color. Then once we realized the handle were 2 tone, we did another run with the same Acuto+ steel with the one tone matte handles. I think the final production of these will have the AUS8 steel on them. This is all the information I have found so I really hope this helps. If you need anything else please let me know.

Thanks. I think that clears it up, if I follow what they are saying.
The First First Production (or "first run") were Acuto.
Then the next First Production were also Acuto.
Now the regular production will be AUS8.

As I mentioned mine was listed as Acuto 440. Have no idea if that is just another name CRKT has for Acuto+.

I really would not call the "first run" two tone. The finger grooves are matte and the rest of the handle smooth, but all black.
