Has anyone checked this one out? Thinking about picking one up, but would like some opinions..Looks very nice!

Not sure how well that's gonna take an edge, guess it depends on your napping skills.

I don't think the Fossil has even been released yet.

It hasn't. I have one on pre-order, supposed to be shipped around the first of March.

[Edit: I stand corrected. Seems a few dealers got their stock in before others and some folks have them available now.]

45Shooter posted some initial impressions in the review subforum. So far, so good, from what I can tell.

Looks pretty nice. Should be a nice blade. CRKT does a pretty good job on their IKBS bearing flippers. I have a blue Ripple framelock and a Eros and they both flip beautifully.

Just had my wife randomly buy me this one and received it last night. I am by no means a fan of CRKT and more of a custom / ZT / Spyderco type of guy but i am extremely impressed with this one. I believe it was around $60 and flips great and actually has a decent enough blade and handle ergonomics. Initially when i saw it online i thought to my self, "This is mall knife junk" but after holding it and flipping it, i am very presently surprised.

I would recommend you pick one up if you are curious. $60 for a knife like this inst bad at all.

I got mine (the small one) in a couple of days ago. Some comments:

  1. simioh is right. The knife is heavy, but the weight just makes it feel substantial. Well balanced
  2. The knife looks better in person than in pictures.
  3. The blade design is nice in appearance and functionality.
  4. Like most IKBS systems, the flipper is smooth and easy to use
  5. Handle looks great and, surprisingly, no apparent hotspots.
  6. Downside is that the clip tends to dig into my hand. This might (or might not) be true of the larger one as well.

Another winner by CRKT, IMHO. They have sure come a long way and continue to build on their improvements. No chance to take pics of mine yet, but here are a couple of pics borrowed from the net (thread useless without pics):

I picked up one of these recently.

It is one of the most solid Columbia River knives to have been made to date.

I don't tend to buy a lot of their stuff because of the lack of tip-up pocket clip carry.

I haven't been carrying it around yet because of winter weather conditions though.

An interesting video by Flavio Ikoma, the designer of the Fossil:

I just recieved mine today and I've got to say that it's amazing. Sharp as all hell out of the box, Soild lockup, no blade play at all. and the thing flips like a dream. just need to touch the flipper and it rockets open. and for 65 bucks, you just can go wrong. I picked up the small one as I like to carry a smaller knife, but I'm going to order the large one to simply becasue the knife is bad ass.
