Hi: the spring broke on my CRKT Wild Weasel and they have very nicely offered to replace it with $129.99 in credit in the form of one knife.

Any suggestions?

I like the look of both the Hissatsu and the Titanium M16, but I'm leaning towards to Hissatsu

Thanks

If I were you I might stay away from the hissatsu. I have handled one and IMO it's not a super great knife. Plus with those different grinds I found it hard to sharpen. I know that the m21 is not exactly the same price range, but it is a good heavy use folder with an ok steel that is easy to sharpen and very strong. Some of thier special forces knives are pretty cool too. Also take a look at the m4. Out of the two though I would get the Ti m16.

Just my 2 cents

Why not that big The Natural folder, and something extra, like perhaps the Kommer 2-shot.

Dagon: I can only get one, according to the message I got, but thanks. Looks like the M16 is the one...so far

Of the 2 I would also recommend the M16. Both have the AutoLawks so if this particular feature bugs you then you'll be stuck with it whichever you decide - I find that I got used to it real quick so for me it's no big deal

The Hissatsu is a very solid knife - but very specialised (read covert assault/SD). The overall size as well at the blade thickness and style will limit it's usefulness as an EDC/GP folder. Very good for stabbing things with though

The M16 Ti is a very well made utility folder and much better suited for EDC/GP. I prefer PE knives but AFAIK all the M16's are partially serrated (PS). I also like the choice of thumbstud or flipper to deploy - very smooth, fast and not noticeably slower than an Hissatsu with Outburst. Overall quality and fit & finish is far better than the Hissatsu as well as all the other versions of the M16, including the very well made alloy-handled LE's. The steel also seems to be of a better grade than the other M16's.. In that style and price range, the only thing that might let it down is the possibility of the handle getting a bit slippery under some conditions

Do yourself a long term favor and get the M16 over the gimmicky hissatu.

As sated previously the latter has one purpose - stabbing - while the M16 -4 multipurpose and a far better edc.

My three cents.... :)

I will believe it when i have the knife in hand...Anyway, the wild weasel was really nice, and is still good with the 154 cm. The blade seems to take a great edge...

Thanks Antonio: I was talking about the fixed blade Hissatsu...

Sorry - missed that but really you're trying to compare Chalk and Cheese.

OK - I bought folder & fixed blade Hissatsus as a pigeon pair for my collection because they're very tacti-cool knives, but the fixed is even more purposebuilt than the folding version. Once again it's designed for covert assault/SD and works best as a stabber/slasher and IMHO sucks at all other utility tasks. The blade is too narrow and thick to make a decent cutter and the thin trailing point limits its usefulness as a prybar or for digging, even with a 5.8mm spine. I don't know why anyone who wasn't absolutely desperate would use one as a hunting or fishing knife or try to whittle or baton with one. If I was in the sandbox doing H to H clearing then one of these on a Molle might be a consideration, but in any normal civilian use it would be too mall-ninja for street wear and if you did EDC one you would have a hard time explaining it to the boys in blue.

Compared to a M16-Ti their fit & finish is very disappointing. The first one I got had an obvious blade flaw, and both it and its replacement had very uneven blade grinds, plus that black epoxy? coating sucks and god knows what's under it - I'm too scared to look. I like all 3 knives but if had to choose only 1 would go for the M16-Ti for an EDC. If you just want one to add to your collection then by all means go for it

Too bad the M21 or M4 doesnt have a Ti option. I'd for the for M16 as well.

imho the Ti M16 is the best folder CRKT makes, better steel than most others, better F&F than any other i have seen, a excellent design, i would say go with the M16.

i have had 2 of them and both were very good folders, i also plan to get another large one before too long, i honestly cant think of another CRKT i would even want.
