CRKT Hissatsu + DIY Wave feature

I just got my new CRKT Hissatsu outburst"assisted opening" knife in the mail. It's a very sharp knife out of the box. All my other EDC knives have had a "wave" feature for pocket deployment. Now this knife is 100% combat ready


I upgraded the thumb stud with one from my old Smith and Wesson SWMP9BS. I also have to use one of the longer screws from the S&W. The new thumb stud alone will make it they Hissatsu pocket deploy but I added something special.

I went to home depot and bought a pack of Picture Hangers for less than an $1.

Here are some pictures of the Hissatsu with the wave/ pocket deployment feature. I'm pretty sure you can use my same picture hanger mod on other knifes to get a custom deployment from your favorite knife. Just be creative

That's different. Did you de-assist the Hissatsu? Seems redundant (and dangerous) to have an assisted opener with a wave feature.

I currently have the assist feature active. I've had 4 knifes all assisted opening with a wave/ pocket deployment feature. I only had one knife open when it was in my pocket but that one had a flipper and was spring assisted. This CRKT doesn't have a flipper on it, IMO will make it harder to open when in the pocket.

I've seen some YouTube videos saying you can take out the tension bar/assisted opening feature in the knife. I've had a few co-workers ask to borrow my knives before and the combo of a spring assisted black + pocket opener really makes a nice don't mess with me type of sound

The reason I mentioned "dangerous" is because I had a Benchmade Barrage assisted opener with thumbstuds get snagged on the fabric in my pocket as I was retrieving the knife causing the blade to open inside the pocket before I could pull the knife completely out.

I've also had that happen a couple of times trying to pull out an Emerson folder out of my pocket whilst sitting down. The "wave" would get snagged inside my pocket and begin to open the blade before I could clear it safely out of my pocket.

Fortunately, I wasn't injured on those occasions, but I can see the potential for danger especially with a waved assisted opener. Not saying it will happen all the time, but the last thing you want is a tip up carry assisted opener firing open in your pocket before you can get it out of your pocket.

This mod is still working great! I haven't had it open inside my pocket. It's still running the original picture hanger, never had to replace it. Gotta love the sound of the assisted opening and wave when deploying it out of the pocket.

Sorry to jump on an old thread. The photos aren't around anymore. I got a Hissatsu recently. Do you mind reposting the photos? I've been going crazy trying to figure out how to put a wave on the hissatsu folder...
