What the hell is this? Both washers for the Hissatsu 2 (made in China) are metal, but on the black larger hissatsu folder, theres 1 metal washer, and the other one is plastic. What gives?

I'm assuming its a teflon washer, so its extremely slick. It probably is there to help it open faster.

they call them "teflon" washers, which they are, but dont kid yourself they are basicly plastic. They are a downgrade from the bronze phosphorus washers that higher end companies use.

I believe a lot of custom knife makers use and prefer teflon washers. Enough that I don't necessarily write off a knife just for using them.

Every production knife I've encountered with teflon washers have been complete garbage. They warp and get deformed as they grind against the blade and scales probably due to subpar tolerances. I wouldnt mind teflon washers if its done by a custom maker but I sure as hell dont want them in my production knives. Theres just no reason why you cant just use pb washers when there are so many sub 30 dollar knives that have them.

Eventhough the Chinese made Hissatsu 2 has metal washers the original full-sized Hissatsu is a much better folder in my opinion that the Hissatsu 2 will ever be.

All I can say is Im on my 2nd Hiss 1 folder, the first went through hell and back and kept on going, I love them

I've had both good and bad experiences with Teflon...my SRM 710 has a Teflon washer and it flips out great one handed, open and closed it thousands of times and its still going strong. I think some people associate "plastic" with "cheap" but you can get some garbages folders with bronze washers too.

Mcusta uses a teflon pivot washer of some sort - and their knives aren't "garbage".
