On Friday I received my CRKT Hisshou and put it up to be one of my very best favorites...it is absolutly BEAUTIFUL!

What would you call it, a very large knife or a small wakizashi or large tanto?

This piece is the best thing I have ever seen come out of CRKT. It is sooo sharp that it is scary.

What is your opinions?

I'm in the middle of doing a write-up of one of these now. I'd say this really borders on short sword territory. It's a beautiful blade, and the cord-wrapped handle provides excellent traction. There are a few aesthetic choices I would have made differently -- the plastic collar at the top of the handle I would have made metal, had I the choice, and I don't really care for the grooves in the blade, but these are minor nits. It's a very nice, very large knife.

Pics of it in hand, for size reference? Is the factory sheath alright?

I own the little brother to that knife, the FB hissatsu...i think you made an awesome purchase! I think that the hisshou is deadly

The factory sheath is fine. It's a Kydex affair with plenty of mounting slots and holes for attaching hardware, plus its got a mounting plate of sorts that you could use to attach the knife on, say, a pack strap. The Hisshou also comes with a display box if you want to put it on your desk or a shelf or something when you're not using it.

I think it's beautiful! Nice purchase!

I would call it a large knife, and I'd love to see how well it performs as a chopper/ outdoors knife. But then it's so pretty I don't know if I could bring myself to abuse a knife like that!

This is not really an outdoors knife. Like the Hissatsu, it really is designed primarily to be used on people, politically incorrect as that's going to be perceived.

I started to buy this knife a couple of months ago, but backed out at the last minute. I finally decided that I "had to have" it, and have now commited to it with my dealer and will have it on the 25th of Nov. I know I have absolutely no use for this knife and it will probably only be pulled from it's sheath to admire and pamper, and to show friends/family. Sometimes you don't have to have a reason to get a knife, sometimes the knife just appeals to something within you, maybe your inner mall ninja:eek:;), and you want for no other reason than to have it.:D

Why did I buy a Swamp Rat Waki? Same thing:D

I look forward to your review Phil.
maybe your inner mall ninja:eek:;)

Yup.

FYI the well-known youtube reviewer "Cutlerylover" recently made a video about it, including some cutting demos. The video is HERE.

It's indeed very pretty, but I have absolutely no use for it.
