CRKT Homefront

I don't own one so take my comments with a grain of salt.

CRKT continues to be one of the most innovative companies in the business. There. I said it. The Haters will probably line up to attack me now.

What CRKT falls down on is delivery of a quality product. I love some CRKT designs and wish they were delivered LAWKS free, with better materials, better F&F, tip up clips just to name a few of my issues with many of their knives.

In terms of the Homefront in particular, it's a brilliant concept that solves a non-problem. The idea of a field strippable knife is interesting, but most knives, particularly those with an open back/spacer design, can be easily cleaned without dis-assembly. At the end of the day the Homefront charges you for a novelty feature you don't really need when you can get a better knife with better materials for less money.

If you're cool with the concept of "overpaying" for the Homefront, then go for it. Otherwise there are probably better options for your knife dollar.

I was thinking that a bit due to the AUS 8 steel. That said, I gotta be honest I like the fuller on the blade.
Any other options that are a better value that looks similar?

How about a Maserin Police? Better Materials. Flips great and falls shut. Only downside is the weight.

For about $20-30 less, how about a RealSteel H6-S1 or E775 Griffin?

For about $30 more, how about a WE703?

You're also in the range of a Delica, Blur, Camber, Endura, Recon...well...lots of knives that are just a little better.

i have one. its not a bad knife and onions design is pretty darn good. i find the rear screw down setup comes loose a bit from the way i grip it and use the knife but not enough to make it unlock or be dangerous. the 4116 version is cheaper and the hunting version is the one i am waiting for to add another.

for folks who love to strip down their knives and clean them its a perfect and much faster and the parts fit back together perfectly with no turning screws in a certain order to get lock bar in the right place etc etc.

ill say this if onion had released it to zt or spyderco, people would rant and rave on how smart and great it is, but being crkt......well ive said enough.......

I have one too, and I agree with jbmonkey's statements, except that I haven't had issues with loosening the rear screw. Like he said, it may just be a matter of how you hold the knife, and I may use a different grip. One thing that surprised me was that I figured there would likely be some slop or blade play with the take-down design, but that's not the case. I've used mine at work for a few weeks and flipped it probably a few hundred times. I've also disassembled it numerous time, just to get used to it, and it still goes together snug with zero blade play. So far so good. I like it.
