Hi guys. I'm considering a CRKT M-16 FD as my next purchase and was wondering if anyone might have some opinions on the knife and on the quality of CRKT on the whole. I noticed their serrations appear to be much tighter than Spyderco's. Has anyone compared the two in terms of cutting ability? Thanks very much.

I love my M16/11K. Quality is on par with Spyderco and Benchmade, though fit and finish is noticeably higher than my Spydercos (not Benchmades). Same with my other two CRKTs too. Too bad you can't get these in a higher end steel to match the new titanium handles.

You most certainly won't regret the M16

I have Pesh Kabaz and it is well constructed. It is similar to your knife in that it has dual liners, same pivot consturction and lock system. Came razor sharp and holds the edge. The AUS6 performs well, like the same steel in Spydercos stainless endura. CRKT does tell you in the instructions to tighten up the knife occasionally. My Pesh Kabhaz need tightening after about two months, but I was abusing it and throwing it. In a year of regular use, it's needed no extra adjustment. Well made knife that performs as expected.

I have an M16-13. I really like it and its frequently my EDC. The M16-13 has AUS 8 steel.

i have carried an m16-13 and m16-14 at work where they get a daily workout. I think they are great knives for the price. The AUS-8 is an OK steel- but at this price you can't complain. I dont know if the grind is different- but my m16-14 seems to get and stay sharper despite it getting more use...

CRKT's serrations simply do not work, they hang up when cutting cardboard. Spyderco serrations, if not the best, certainly can compete with any production or custom serrated knife on the market, even (you know, not going to say it because I don't want a war) that one company.

I don't own any serrated spyderco knives for comparison, but my CRKT serrations cut fine. I use it pretty often for plastics and occasionally for fabrics, goes through it. The best serrations I've ever used are on my CRKT STIFF KISS.

Anyone know if you can get a paramilitary partially serrated? Buying a para for a family member this christmas and he wanted like that...

I have a titanium handled M16. The knife has pretty good ergos but the liner is wearing out very fast; it is almost to the other side of the scale now. Also, the bead blasting they use makes the blade a little more prone to staining. Aus-8 is ok steel but you can certainly get better steels.

The ball bearing detent on the liner will actually prevent the liner from ever reaching the other side of the knife, though it's a very convincing visual illusion to the contrary.

Concerned about this myself, I took a short flathead screwdriver and tried to pry the liner all the way to the other side, to put it inbetween the tang and the scale, to no avail.

Despite this, there has been at least on person who said, if I recall, that the liner does get stuck on the other side sometimes on his M16 (perhaps the ball itself has fallen out\worn down, which happens occasionally on liner locks). Fortunately, the result is a very difficult time getting the liner to the correct side of the knife again (to unlock), but the blade was held in place nonetheless.

Nonetheless, for most of us, including my pry-tested M16, the ball bearing makes this a practical impossibility.

I was the guy who got the liner to slip between the tang and scale. My detent ball is still in good shape and I actually had to use a screwdriver and some elbow grease to make it happen. It has never happened as a result of use. I've had mine for a couple years and flipped it countless times so the detent ball is just a little worn down. Like AM said though, even when I got it to slip past the tang the lock didn't fail (close on my fingers) and I had to disassemble the knife to put it back in place. If anything, this made me trust the lock MORE and the same M16 is still in my EDC rotation and is usually what's in my pocket at any given time. I trust it implicity and think their liner lock is one of the best I've ever used especially with the LAWKS system. People give CRKT a lot of crap but the M16 series usually recieves nothing but praise.

CRKT is "ok" but is not on par with a spydie/BM imho, a good knife for the $$ though as long as it doesnt have lock probs (which a lot of them do)

M16s are "ok" too would pass on the 1 ya mentioned and get the ti version though myself.
