What do u guys think about CRKT folding knives?...many are the AUS-8 steel?

Just for everyday needs?:jerkit:

You know this symbol :jerkit: is considered to be rude. Its not a chin scratch or fist bumps, but a jerk it emotion/smilie.

And to answer your question I like some of them, they are not the best, or the the worst.

I don't care for most of their knives... particularly the M16 line.

They make some good ones though.

the M16-04 tanto was my first quality knife i ever bought. Its a biggin. BUt i love it. I had it for 5 years, it was the only knife i had. but it was way to big for where i lived so i bought the buck strider with the coyte handles, have been carrying that for 3 years. Both knives are great. i bought the m16 on ebay for 30 buck and it is the best 30 dollar knife i own. I have a 550 griptilian and also a couple leathermans. The CRKT is just as sharp out of the box as them all. Its also built like a tank, I droped mine from my second floor bedroom window, and it hit concrete scratched it and nuthin else. They do dull easyer than the rest though, so keep it sharp. Also the Oring under the screw tends to dry out and crack reduring it useless. So keep it oiled and its fine. also, the auto lawks is pretty cool. Im not gonna say its just like a fixed blade becuase it still folds and its a very thin tiny piece of metal keeping it from folding. So, If a man can make it, A man can brake it.

i have a m16-14t and love it. also have an m-4 and love it, i just wish i wouldn't have gotten the veff serrations with the m-4. both knives lock solid with no blade play. the m16 was my edc until i got a benchmade 520 presidio. i have yet to understand all the crkt haters out there, for the price their hard to beat. that being said, benchmade and spyderco are without a dought better quality. my next purchase will probably be a m-21!!

The crkt line is okay, like was said not the worst or the best,i am a knife snob, pack a sebenza and you will see,the jerk it needs to be removed......

People around here seem to agree that they're pretty good low-end knives.

I don't mean low-end as a value judgment, just that there are much better knives out there--but for the money, a lot of people seem to generally really like what they get from CRKT.

If looking at it purely from a tool/performance standpoint, I'd say that dollar for dollar you would always be able to find a better Kershaw.

But CRKT does have a lot of very unique designs and if you see one you like, go for it. I really don't like the chisel grind that they put on a lot of models though.

From what I've seen on the forum, CRKT always comes up as a pretty good brand but below Spyderco, Benchmade, and Kershaw in terms of quality. I've only had two CRKT knives an M16 and the M1 Lightfoot and both served me well. Their AUS8 blades seem to be heat treated a little softer than AUS8 blades I have from Spyderco and Benchmade. They don't seem to hold their edge as long but sharpen up real easy. For most knife users I don't think it'd make a difference and I'm able to get a razors edge on it with my sharpmaker. I haven't bought a CRKT in a while but this year's catalog has some interesting designs so I'm considering picking up one or two if finances allow. So many good knives and so little money.

I don't know if it's hate, so much as the knowledge that there are better knives available for just a few dollars more.

But, there are a lot of people who love them, so they do have something going for them!

I don't agree that they're "low end" knives; rather, they're mid-range. If you get a serrated CRKT knife, the blade will only be ground on one side, which really limits cutting things like wood unless you're left handed. Double grind knives generally cut better and straighter than single grind.

I'm not crazy about CRKT serrations. You also have to check the steel they use for blades because they make some models that are very close to other models with better (AUS8) steel. In other words, if it's not AUS8, don't buy it unless you can find one of the older ATS-34 knives.

The M21-04 is a find knife. Double grind and deep bellied. Get the AutoLAWKS if you can.

Not junk quality but definitely low end. I had a few when I first got into knives but I won't buy any more. :thumbdn:

I've edc one for 7 years now and still have no complaints. First a large ck folder then 2 large m-16's and now I carry a m-16 and a m-21.

I wouldn't call them totally low end. Low ends is the $5 crap you get at the gas station.

They're basically mid range. They constently come out with crazy new designs on everything. From handle scales, to shapes, blade steels, even locking mech's. They cover a very wide board pretty well.

Course, I own more Spydies then anything else, but CRKT is a great company to start the knife craze off with. I know it did for me.

WHy do we even have that smilie?

So ignorant people can use it.

M16-13SF at was the first knife i dropped a noticable amount of money on...like $83. i have since moved on to bigger and better knives but it still keep my M16 around for shits and giggles..never gets pocket time tho

I'm not a huge fan of CRKT, but I am definitely going to pick up a Tuition and Summa from the 2009 catalog.

In my opinion, they are on the low mid range knives, if that makes sense. They have good designs, but they have poor steel choices for their knives.
