The topic says it all. I loved mine the moment that I got it in hand, but after playing with it I feel that I have found a fatal flaw in the design of this piece...

You see, I can make the liner lock partially release just by gripping the handle of the open knife tightly in certain ways. It seem that the liner is not recessed, and therefore flesh from my index finger squeezes in there during gripping and dislodges the liner away from the locked position. While the blade is in no danger of closing, severe vertical play is introduced when this situation occurs.

Try gripping and squeezing the handle in different ways if you have one, and I'll bet that after a short while you'll hear/feel a little "click" sound, and at that point try wiggling the blade up and down. Not cool.
The problem has continued even after grinding down the raised serrations on the locking liner, which I thought were digging into my finger and causing the lock release...

Now, I've done some full speed ballistic cutting into pizza boxes with this piece, as well as cutting up some old leather boots and carving wood. During these tests the lock did not fail, but the problem above is unsettling. I like this piece a lot, and if Greg Lightfoot were to produce a handmade version of this I would consider ordering one for daily carry and use. However, for the moment, further Dremel surgery to recess the liner more deeply into the frame is pending...

Hi Mr...

Great to see another Canajun here on the forums.. Welcome!!

I've seenthis happen on some liner locks, and can possibly be a problem on most of them.

In certain grips like the reverse grip, or if you are using a right handed knife left handed this can happen.

Aputations of fingers can also be a problem..
I don't think that this is unique to your knife though...

Most of us I think have learned to live with it, and avoid the grips that will most likely cause that..

The CRKT Crawford KFF has a neat little lock that prevents this from happening...

Drop me a note sometime..

ttyle Eric...
