I don't know how may models it will appear on but the new M21 4" I just received had it. There is an internal spring that automatically engages the LAWKS locking system. I love it. A great idea. Somebody should get a big fat raise.

I know that CRKT knives aren't all that popular on this forum but I think the M21 line of AUS-8A model knives are great work, camp, and general hard use knives. No doubt CRKT sells more of this design than any other model. Usually like a plain blade but for this knife I'm partial to the combo spear point.

Anyway, if anyone is buying a CRKT with the LAWKS system, you might check with CRKT to see if the knife you are ordering has the new "auto-engage" so that you can make sure the dealer sends you one with it instead of one from his old stock.

Regard,
Gary

Loved my M16...would rather have an M21 knowing what I know now...loaned it to a friend who lost it in half a day....ahh well, no biggie.

Some friend that doesn't pay for items lost. You can still pick up an M21 4 incher for less than $50. That's pocket change these days. Go for it. You'll love the new locking system.

There are some CRKT models I like very much. And the new auto LAWKS is not only interesting, but useful as well.

I have the M21 4" combo also and like it very much as a large folder. I haven't used the LAWKS much yet and the "auto" feature wouldn't be the most important selling feature for me, but I do like the knife.

He wanted to pay, but I declined. He's clumsy, but he's almost a perfect friend. I'm going to buy him one and teach him how to EDC responsibly.

Not a big fan of the Auto Lawks myself. The normal liner lock on a CRKT has always been adequate for me. The older Lawks system wasn't really what I viewed as necessary, but I could see where it would be nice to set if you were really horsing your knife for some reason.

Whoever decided the Auto Lawks would be a great idea obviously hasn't tried closing the darn things in 60 below zero with a pair of Refrigiwear gloves on.

(regular leather work gloves are a big enough PITA with the linerlock itself.)

Overall though, I think CRKT makes some of the best bang for buck work knives out there. Well...that, and I was sad to see some of the CRKT products are now being made in China.

Thankfully, I have one more old style M-16 12.:D
