CRKT Lift Off2 /Ignitor or should I just go for the Benchmade 585 Mini Barrage?

So yesterday I went to an Army/ Navy store and handled an AO knife for the first time...I originally did not care for them personally as I have some flippers and spyderco's that I could open just as fast but...man...once that spring activates...it feels great.

I handled the BM Emissary, BM Nitrous Stryker, full size BM Barrage, and the Sog Flash 2...I liked the Emissary the most (smaller/slim for EDC) but it is past my price point at the time....I liked the Nitrous Stryker the most but it did not have a secondary lock that I know of..and I really don't want anything opening up in my pocket (happened before).

The guys told me that there was a smaller version of the barrage and I just looked it up online and have found that it is the perfect size for me.
Also looked at the CRKT lift off 2 and the Ignitor series and I really like their "FireSafe" operation and the fact that with the FireSafe, it eliminates an additional step in opening the knife by combining the "secpndary lock" with the thumbstud.

Anyways, for those with the CRKT Lift Off 2/ Ignitor knives...how do you like yours? any problems on blade play? (anal about blade play)...or anything with the knife at all? (slow opening, weak/delicate parts, etc) pr should I just shell out for the Benchmade Mini Barrage? (which I really like as well...but without the FireSafe feature, it'll take me an additional step to open)

Thanks alot guys...I searched the forums first before posting this but could not find what I was looking for exactly...I appreciate the answers

Did you like how the CRKT handled? Which blade-shape do you prefer?

I don't own the CRKT but have the BM 585, bought it as my first Benchmade for ~$70 and loved how it fit my hand and the ambi-dexterity of the system as well as the security. I've never had the blade open accidentally even when dropped without the 2ndary lock on - the axis-bar retains the tang as well as the coil-spring, it takes some deliberate force to move that thing. I also like that it is tip-up carry. It is made with higher quality materials than the CRKT and Benchmade is known for better F&F, and it has the axis-lock BUT there is a premium on it. You could buy 2 Lift-Offs for the price of a BM 585.

I have a CRKT Delegate and I don't like the lock on it. It takes a certain deliberate action to get it to open, and that takes time. A normal manual opening knife is faster for me to open. I have not tried a BM AO knife but I am interested in the Stryker. I do have a Kershaw Leek and a Kershaw Blur. For me the Leek is similar in that it takes a slow and deliberate action to open but this is partly because of its size. The Blur OTOH is very quick and easy to open.

Aside from that, my CRKT seems to be a pretty good knife and I would think that the Ignitor would be pretty good too. There might be a small difference in quality of workmanship that would show up over the life of the knife, and of course the blade steel is quite a bit difference. The other big difference is that some people will know that there is a difference in price between the BM and the CRKT and they will not respect the CRKT as much.

Don't you dare choose a crkt over a benchmade! :D lol just messing

seriously, I have a CRKT m21 and M16 and a benchmade grip. The benchmades offer way more value for money as they have better steel in the blades and the Axis lock imo is way better than the liner lock most crkt's use

Thanks for the input guys

Anyways...went to the Sporting Goods store a few minutes ago and found out they had the CRKT Ignitor and the Benchmade Mini Barrage available..played with both for a while and loved the ergonomics of both...

BUT. Sorry Benchade fans....I did like the feel of the Ignitor better:

I looked around and saw that they had an Emissary for a pretty good price! The one I saw yesterday was going for about 210 and this one is comparable to some online stores out there. I ended up getting it as well...:p

This addictions burning a hole in my pocket :grumpy:... Hopefully these purchases will keep me satisfied for a while before I get hungry again...lol

Congrats on discovering the Blade Forums solution to the knife dilemma - buy one of each. ;)
