I have a thing for wide blades with deep bellies and these two seem to fit the bill. I hear good things about both. It will be used as a task knife to back up my Commander. I am interested in hearing thoughts on both. Thanks for looking.

I have not handled the Al Mar WORTAC but I have Timberline's Worden tactical and that knife seems to have been molded to my hand. The recurved blade is graceful and functional.

I have the M1 and love it also. Built like a tank, comfy, beautiful and useful strong blade.

The knives are a bit difficult to compare. The two are definitely in different price categories (WORTAC-$180, M1-$45). Also I only seem to be able to find the WORTAC auto (is there a manual version?). How will you be carrying? The M1 is THICK, but the clip has four carry options. The WORTAC is l-o-n-g in the pocket but is flatter.

So it depends on the parameters of use and carry for you. Buy both, feel them out, keep the one you like, send the other one to me.;)

I was refering to the Timberline model. It will be a task knife carried in my right pants pocket. I am used to bigger knives like the Commander. Thanks for your input.

I have the custom versions of the M1 and the Wortac...the Wortac is WAAYYYYYY bigger in every way...keep in mind that the Wortac was designed to be used as an impact weapon...this was not a consideration for the M1.

Oh, and I also have a Commander...again, the Wortac is much bigger (the Commander is very thin)...the balance is also completely different...the Commander is very blade heavy while the Wortac is very butt (or at least handle) heavy.

RL,
Is that a manual action WORTAC? If so, where can I get one?

Yes, it is manual...as far as I know, Pat Crawford does not make an auto version of his custom Wortac...I ordered it directly from Pat...

here I am with Pat
