I recently bought a CRKT M-16 4" Tanto with a zytel handle. I've had it for about a week and noticed what looks like rust spots on the blade and on the metal exposed through the holes in the handle. Has anyone had this happen to them? What will remove it? or should I send it back?

Thanks guys

I'm afraid to say that while it should be possible to deal with blade rust, there is little you can do about the exposed liners. Mine were rusting like crazy after a while. You could polish the blade with sandpaper as I did (which is more stain resistant and pleasant to the eye), but it will be hard to polish the liners unless you have something that will fit down in that little hole. I would strongly reccommend that you do not take it apart, as I did this, and it messed it up.

Well I'm surprised. I'm wondering if you're using it in a particularyly wet/humid environment?

In any event, you have to clean the rust spots off, or they will spread out and down into the blade. Buy a metal polish- there are plenty- and work it on the blade with a CLOTH until the spots are gone. Then you can put on a protectant os some sort.

What do I use for rust? Simicrome, Flitz, and some stuff made for guns.

To protect? At the very least I coat the blade with 3-in-1 oil. I usually use "Rust Free" from AGRussell.com. It works for me.

Good luck!
