I've been looking at the Columbia River Knife and Tool M-16 series for a while now and the M-21 series too. Most of the forum reviews have seemed very positive, but I did have one question for those who own these particular knives:

On the bottom of the handle where the thumbstud rests in the frame when the blade is closed, there seems to be a pronounced bump or rise in the contour of the handle. This bump is right where you would wrap the index finger around the handle when the knife is open and appears almost pointed. I was just wondering if this small bump made the knife uncomfortable during use or was just not an issue?

I'm about ready to try one out.

Do you mean the flipper that you use to flip the knife open quickly? If so mine does'nt get in the way at all and makes the knife super quick to use. Very good knife. I love mine.(m16-04) Big Dog!

No, not the flipper. I was referring to the notch in the handle where the thumbstud rests when the knife is closed. This is the same area where the index finger rests when the knife is open--on the underside of the handle. That's what I was looking at.........

No, it dosen't get in the way for me at all. No issue. I have relatively large hands but my fingers are not meaty. You'll have no problem here.

Mudflap, I have the M21-14 model, large with serrations. I thoroughly hate bumps and protuberances. Manufacturers/Makers who put these things on knives don't realize how they can hurt when using the knife all day long, when drawing in haste, or bumping it into something. ...that said, I see the hump you are talking about but it hasn't bothered me a bit -- yet! The way I hold the knife, even when choking up for finer work, my finger doesn't really contact the bump. I see more contact on the sides of the knife. I'm keeping it for now.
