I would like to buy one of these knives but don't know which is better; the aluminum handle model or the Zytel handle model. Which do you prefer? Thanks, Bob

Or maybe the carbon fiber model?

I just bought my son the zytle version. For $40 it was a good buy. He's very happy with it. The fit and finish appear very good and it feels solid - I like the steel liners. Yes it's "only" Aus-6 steel but it's sharp and well ground.

Yep, Carbon Fiber is the way to go here.

for all your knife needs.

Hard choice.....the zytel is a little thicker
and a tad less $$$. The aluminum M16 is a litle thinner and if you loosen that pivot screw just a hair, that blade will fly out there. And BTW, the Aluminum M16 small ones are now available with the flipper option. I'm getting mine in friday for the show this weekend....Can't wait to play a little more with them

I have the aluminum handle. As mentioned it is thinner than zytel. It is a nice knife. I would recommend it.

I also have the small one with aluminum handles,it's a nice little knife,my choice for carry ons for flying, no serrations though

I'd vote for either the Al handled model (thinner, marginally better blade steel and now it comes with the flipper as well). The Carbon Fiber models are also very nice: they cost more than the Zytel or Al models, blade lengths are shorter, they are much lighter, do not have the flipper and are supposed to have the best blade steel in the series.

For a knife to carry around the office the CF spear point model would be my choice, although even that might be seen as a bit to offensive. For an all around utility knife that might have to see some "tactical" use, I'd go for a flippered Al spear point. The nice thing about the flipper is that it doubles as a really effective guard.

either the zytel on Al are nice...in the store i work in we recommend a light coat of oil on the blade because the bead blast finish has a tendency to retain alittle more moisture than a polished blade would....also check the lock up of the knife to be purchased...some have a tendency to stick.

I have a zytel version which was motivated by the cheaper price. The alumium versions were considerably more expensive here and only the older versions without the flipper were available, so there wasn't much of a choice for me.

If I was in your shoes it would depend on how much I wanted to spend. If you can get an aluminium version WITH a flipper then it sounds good. If you want to save a few $$ go with zytel.

I would recommend the straight edge in either case as it's easier to sharpen (something which may eventually need to be done with AUS6 or 8 steel).

I have the 03Z and I love it. Whichever you get, make sure it has the flipper, big difference. Mine was a bit rough and sticky at first, but after about 3 weeks of constant flipping and some White Lightning, it is as smooth as any of my other knives. The aluminum handled models are a little thinner and lighter, but there's no problem with the Zytel. I haven't yet handled the CF or black ones, though those look promising as well. And do coat the blade with something - my KFF (same steel) started to rust, and my knives never rust. It's a good knife though, I recommend it.

I have the carbon fiber model and it's a great value. It's well made, and very light. It's also the best looking of the offerings IMO.
