I sold my serrated Native to pick up an ATR for a great price, but waited too long and missed out on the ATR. Now I'm looking at the CRKT M1 Lightfoot and Kershaw Seagal folders. Both are similar size and use AUS-8 steel, which I like. Which would be a better folder in my bug-out-bag?

I own both and both are built well for the price. The Seagal has a highly polished blade is a better looking knife in my opinion. I really don't know how well the stingray skin will hold up tho. The M1 just seems to me to be the harder use knife, plus has the Laws Lock. I gave one to a member of the airborne now stationed in Iraq. He loves it, matter of fact 6 other guys in his platoon purchased one for themselves before deployment.
If I had to choose one over the other, I'd have to go with the M1.

the M1 is an underrated tough folder. it doesn't flip smoothly w/o wrist, but the thick blade is tough.

Just a couple of other suggestions. I'd consider the CRKT My Tighe with a frame lock. Or the best deal on a knife, the Spyderco Native with S30V steel from Wallmart at 39.95. I hope you have fun deciding, I couldn't and own them all. I'm sure you'll get more suggestions on this forum to make the decision even harder. Hey you need to include a fixed blade in your BOB.

I actually had a serrated Native S30V in my BOB, but sold it to pick up the ATR, but then the ATR sold out. I was thinking about the Native again, but wanted to consider other options too, especially since the CRKT M1 and Kershaw Seagal are both larger, which I was looking for. The M1 is about $53-$54 shipped online, and someone on BF is selling a Seagal for $38. I thought about the My Tighe too and actually know a couple of friends selling theirs...one a PE and another a CE. Tho I EDC almost exclusively PEs, I want either CE or fully SE in my BOB. I don't know how the 1.4116 steel on the My Tighe holds up tho. I like AUS-8 and it holds an edge fine for me.
