CRKT M16-01 Pocket Clip and Lock Question

I found an M16-01KZ literally laying on the floor at work, from the tightness of the pivot and how quickly it loosened up I'm guessing its been a long time since it was used. The edge and tip are pretty buggered, but I think I can get it all sharpened out. It doesn't have a pocket clip though, so I need one. Does CRKT sell them and their corresponding screws, or do I need to look elsewhere? Also, whats the easiest way to disable the automatic safety? Its neat and all, but I'd rather it just function like a normal liner lock. It looks like I could snip the part that holds the lock in place, but I'm just making sure there isn't some specific method.

On a side note this is my first CRKT besides an "Eat'n tool" and its a pretty nice little knife. I like it! Finding this one has sold me on getting one of their larger M16's.

Just file the tab off from the end of the lock. It is very simple to take the knife apart. You won't have any problems.

You can order a replacement AutoLAWKS parts online from CRKT if you mess things up. I would order them before I modified the knife. Just in case. While you are at it, order replacement washers and screws. No charge.

BTW, they have a automatic version of the M16 series. Not crazy about the automatic knife but the clip on it is far better than the standard M16 clip. I would call them and ask about a replacement. You will not be disappointed.

I carried a M16-02 knife for much of my time in the service. I have moved on to knives with better steel but still have the 16 and a CRKT Prowler too. Two of my favorite budget knives.

Consider CRKT's M16 ER knife. A little better steel than some others in the series.

I went to their web site under replacement parts and filled out an order! I got washers, lawks system, pocket clip and screws. That is really great service to just offer to send you any parts you need like that, I was very impressed. They're not my favorite company but they're definitely growing on me. Here'es a picture of the knife since everybody loves pictures!

All the pictures I've seen only show pocket clip screw holes for right hand carry, but this one's ambidextrous. Doesn't matter for me because I'm a righty, but its worth noting. I've been eyeing the M16 series for a few years now, and now that I have one in hand I'm done waiting to get one. I'll probably be deciding which one here pretty soon.. They really have too many to chose from though haha.

Update: I just slipped a pair of needle nose pliers into the space between the liner lock and the handle scale and grabbed the Lawks tab. After wiggling for just a second it snapped, so now the auto lock is disabled and nothing was harmed! The switch (or whatever its called) for disengaging the Lawks kind of sticks up in the way, but I'll just pull the whole unit out whenever I get around to disassembling it.

Do some tests on the basic lock before you take it all out. I saw an M16 whose lock would move back and forth as you pushed on the blade. I couldn't have faith in that knife without the safety in place.

I did, it held up fine. Actually it holds up to a surprising amount of stress, I wasn't going to MAKE it fail but there's no way it would under normal use. This thing has definitely seen better days, but it still locks up very tightly and stays secure. The only play is a VERY tiny amount of side-to-side play. CRKT made a good little knife when they made this one. Also I sanded down some of the scale opposite of the lock because it was a pain to get my thumb in the tiny space it needed to in order to catch the liner lock. Now without the auto safety and the recess for unlocking, this a very comfortable knife to use. Once the clip gets here and I get it sharpened bak up its going to make for a great little knife! I like to carry bigger folders though, so this one will probably end up in a vest or jacket pocket as a backup when I need something I don't care about losing/breaking.

Has anyone made custom scales? I won't be bothering with that on this one but a larger, nicer version would be beautiful with some stained wood scales. I have really fallen for the shape of that grip, and even the shape of the whole knife, even this small one fits my hand perfectly and is very comfortable to use.
