Does it make for a good EDC?

Steel handle, 12c27 steel, large/thick washers, flipper, tanto... all look good on paper and in theory.

The alternative is the M16-01S (drop point, 8cr13) which seems on the lower end.

With all due respect, please don't suggest alternatives as they're likely not available where I live.

Thank you.

CRK&T tends to have spotty QC, but the basic design by Walker is good.

IMO if given optimal heat treats 8Cr13 will outperform 12C27 if tested side by side. But I've no experience with CRK&T's treatment of those alloys. So in this case I don't think you can depend on one being significantly better than the other.

Personally, I find a drop point to be more useful than a tanto. But that's a personal opinion.

I carried a M16 by CRKT when they first came out after talking to the designer Kit Carson.. I carried it for years and it never let me down, but then again this was some 15 or so years ago.. Not sure about them today... especially with the batwing looking serrations.. The only crkt edged weapons I carry now is the Kasper/Crawford folder and I found one of the Kasper/Crawford professional folder a few years ago.. But these are at least 10 years old.. But they are good edc and the locking mechanism is great once tuned in

Closest I've got is this M21 . The design was fine with me , but the steel / HT was off (or maybe improperly factory sharpening burn edges ) .

For Cold Steel knives , I do not recommend their serrations for a user . Very tedious and difficult to properly sharpen , IMO .

You've posted about Cold Steel here , so I'll only say I would personally trust any Cold Steel , Tri-ad lock folder , made in Taiwan , over almost anything from CRKT .
True. I have to ask based on very limited stock, usually one-two pieces, of what's currently available where I live. (Unfortunately, a Recon 1 is way too heavy as EDC in the subtropics where shorts and tshirt are the daily wear.)

It seems that the more recent versions are going back to the original designs, no fancy locking system, frame lock rather than scales and liner lock, etc.
