hi im considering a crkt m16 zytel series. it is an older model with LAWKS making it aus 6 instead of 4. would aus 4 be superior to aus 6? also anyone with experience with this knife please tell me how you like it. thanks in advance.

I don't own this knife, but I can tell you that AUS 6 is superior to AUS 4. The switch was made to cut costs, not improve the knife.

There have been several complaints complaining about the quality of the Zytel models (lock failures, etc.). I have not read any complaints about the higher level CRKT M16's. Those are the ones with AUS8 blades and non-plastic handles.

For a few dollars more than the Zytel version, you can get the aluminum handled version with AUS8.

A much better knife; way better than the difference in price.

Is your purchasing decision based on the locking system (LAWKS or autoLAWKS) or on the blades steel? I've too heard complaints regarding the Zytel M16s lock failure. If you prefer the the LAWKS over the autoLAWKS and want it in AUS8, for the same price you can go for a M21. I personally have the M16-01K (Al handle) and EDC it pretty much everyday.

I have the M16-14Z in AUS6, and I think it's an "okay" knife. I'd much prefer one of the better ones like the M21-04. Gorgeous knife and very high quality.

I have a 13Z (AUS-6 Steel, Zytel handle)

The steel corrodes easily. After 5 months of EDC, the entire blade has tiny rust spots on it. I am not very impressed with that. It is however easy to sharpen and holds the edge fairly well.
