Has anyone compared the CRKT M16-13Z with an AUS 6 blade with the newer model with an AUS 4 blade? Or just an M16-13 with an AUS 8 blade? One knife in three steel blade configurations would be interesting to see how they fared against each other in similar cutting tasks.

Or if someone has had two of these knives and has just formed an opinion, I'd be interested.

Seems I've read some negative reviews of the knife and would like any general feedback as well. Thanks!

I have a M16-13T and M16-01T (both spear points in AUS 8). I find both to be good quality, reliable pocket folders. Of the M16 series, I think these are the best. I've played with the Tanto style M16s in the past, but I did not like them as well.

As an aside... I recently tried a different CRKT model in AUS 4 and found it to be an inferior product.

I have compared AUS-4/8 in M16-14's slicing cardboard, details are in the M16 review currently in progress. I intent to try finer finishes as soon as I get more cardboard as well as other aspects of edge retention such as carving woods and similar eventually.

Fantastic!

Good Guy, what is it that you thought made the spear point better than the tanto? I'm just curious. Although I like tantos, I'm not sure I understand the idea behind them except to add strength for things like prying.

In the AUS 4 version, did you get the auto-on feature for the LAWKS? I asked one of CRKT's technical people if there was a way to tell the difference between the AUS 4 issues and the AUS 6 and he told me they just began making them with AUS 4 blades and that there was really no way to tell by looking.

I have an older AUS 6 model and I've grown to like the knife better than I did when I first got it.

The Tanto version I had was an older M16 "EDC" in AUS 8. I forget the model number. I found that the hollow ground profile resulted in a blade that was too thin (if that makes sense) resulting in a fragile edge that chipped easily. I have not had that experience with the spear points.

I have an M16-13LE I got a couple of years ago, It doesn't has the LAWKS system so I think Its probably AUS8 but I can't remember...

I love the Spear Point shape, It's practical for small cuts and a great slicer too, I haven't checked if the point is strong stabbing something but it seems it will be ok. Nice knife, at least the old version.

I have a CRKT m16-14SFA Tanto american made that i want to get rid of. Great blade steel, and built to last. It's just too big for me for EDC. Brand new, never been carried or sharpened. Email me at rastaj@hotmail.com if interested

Probably you don't know but you need to be a gold member to sell and there's a forum just for that.

Not that this has anything to do with the original question, but I would love to see CRK&T make the M16-14T "Big Dog" with a spear point. Never have understood why they didn't.

OK, just looked and I see that the M21 series has the spearpoint blade........cool!

The one thing the tanto has in its favor is that it remains thick enough to pry doors and other things. The blades are quite thick. The M21-14/04 is a beautiful knife and goes for about fifty bucks on eBay.
