I recently lost my Spyderco Native for almost two weeks and had to carry my CRKT M16-13Z in its place -- and though I never thought I'd say it, I think I've greatly underestimated the CRKT. Not the crappy new model, but the older AUS-6A. Until then, the CRKT was stuffed in a box under my bed, but now that I've got my Native back (it was clipped to some summer slacks hanging in my closet), I'm not so sure I'm going back to it.
The M16-13Z was one of the first knives I ever ordered and I'm not sure why I stopped carrying it. The blade sharpens beautifully and the knife seems to be of an excellent size and weight; and though the AUS-6A steel isn't a match for the Native's S30V stainless, it's going to be tough going back to the Native.
It makes me wonder how many of the old M16-13Zs are still out there and if anyone's had any experience with the newer AUS-4 models? I thought CRKT downgrading the steel was a bad move, especially when they didn't brand the new knives. But the old knives are still nice to have, and they have great balance and utility.
I also wonder how many of these knives may be rotting in some of your boxes....
