CRKT M16-14 Special Forces Question

I have been looking online at the Columbia River Knife and Tool M16-14 special forces "big dog" knife. It has what appears to be a false edge at the top of the blade. Is this indeed a false edge, and if so can it be sharpend to a true edge? I like the knife because I have been looking for a double edged folder (other than a bali song). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That's not much of a false edge for you to sharpen. It'd take a good grinding to do so, which would screw up the point-strength of the tanto blade. Certainly not worth it.

I don't remember seeing any, but why do you want a double-edged folder?

Hotrisingsun02,

jj is correct, very little of the spine is covered when the knife is closed, you would have an exposed edge. Also, it's illegal many places to have a double edged knife.

I can't help you with the CRKT, but you might want to take a look at the Kabar Dozier Thorn folder. It seems ideally suited for conversion to double edged.

Thanks for all the info guys! I was just tossing around the idea of a double or at least "semi double edged" folder, becuase the state of CA has no provisions for folding daggers, especially if they are not truly double edged. Thanks again for all the help.

Hotrisingsun02, I don't have the tanto point you mention but do have the M21-14 and have had the smaller spearpoint. These have a swedge on top also but the angle is shallow enough that the bevels do not meet on top. there is still a significant flat spot on the spine. You would need to sharpen for three days to get them to meet. Sorry.
