I am going to buy one of these two knives.

The M16-14D is finished in a "desert" colour and weighs 5.3 oz.

The M16-14M is discontinued. I don't know why. It weighs one more oz, but all other specs are the same as the -14D.

I prefer the black colour.

So: Is there anything different about these knives?

Why did they discontinue the black -14M?
Was there a problem with the finish?
Why does it weigh one more oz when it's supposedly the exact same?

I can still buy the -14M on Amazon. That's why I am asking.

No idea.. but I did buy one of CRKT's desert colored folders.. and I was appalled.

The G10 was fine, but the blade... the blade was this dorky crayola gold color, that looked like something a wannabe rapper would carry to match his teeth

Exactly why I want the black model.

I'm not fighting in the middle east.

There are some differences.

The Desert Big Dog has a four position clip. The M16-14M only has two positions.
Also, there are some differences in the blades.

I also found that there is an extra insert at the butt area of M16-14M. While M21-04 has metal ring like studs in the same area. I am wondering whether the plastic insert on M16-14M is weaker or stronger than the support on M21-04. Appreciated if someone can provide the information.

Can anyone check their -14D and see if it also has a plastic insert or if it is metal?

Which (of these two) knife would you guys buy for EDC?

It's interesting that Crkt has so many models that are almost exactly alike .

I just said "screw it" and bought the M16-14D regardless of the gold colour.

It's got a 4-position clip and is the same otherwise.

Plus it was the only one of the two available in Canada, so there!
