Hi everyone!

This is actually my first thread, so I'm somewhat new to this.

I had a LEO friend come over one day and I noticed a knife on his belt. I asked if I could look at it, it was a CRKT M16-14LE. It look well built and felt good in my hands.

I bought one to try out, it has the Auto LAWK system. The blade is AUS 8 and the handle is made of aluminium. I'm not familiar with the history of the company.

Can any one tell me if they have a knife like this and how they like it? Thanks in advance!

Sure I can, I'm carrying my M16-14 right now. It's not the LE version, but everything else on the knife is the same thing. To start with, it has a great blade. I've done some lynolium (if that is how it is spelled ) installation and the knife ended up more blunt than a baseball bat, but after one simple stroke with my diamond rod, it returned to cutting just like it was new again. It is also a great knife to use outdoors too. I've used mine to hack into a branch or two and then shaved them clean and it ended up still being as sharp as ever. The aluminum handles and the thick blade make the knife feel indestructable (for a folder of course ;)). I put the clip on mine in the tip up carry position and the knife draws nice and quick. Hope your knife works out great, J.

Hey Batosai117, thanks for the quick reply. I'll use this as my daily carry knife. I like the fact that I can change the clip to any side, with the tip or down. That's nice. I also carry with the tip up

The M16-14LE is a splendid knife, though I don't much care for the chisel grind. When sharpening, make sure you only sharpen the beveled side, and use an angle of about 25 degees. Once you raise a burr, take it off with a light stroke or stropping.

Oddly, CRKT makes a sharpener that won't sharpen many of their knives--the guides are made for v-grind knives, not chisel grind. It took me a long time before I could sharpen mine and it's still a pain in the ass.

The knife is very rugged, very comfortable, and beautiful. Another one you should get is the M16-14SF. Oh, and take a look at the M21-04 and Cold Steel's Recon 1.

The blade on the LE is a shiny black that reminds me of the royal blue on old Colt and S&W revolvers. Thems were the days!

I like that model too. In fact I gave one as a birthday present to a cousin of my wife's who is an LEO, and his wife recently told me he now uses it instead of the Spyderco Police he carried before. That choice frankly surprises me, but evidently the CRKT suits his needs pretty well.

i love my M16-12 to bits. the blade could be sharper though but i shouldnt use it to cut things or it would be sharp. i want to get a titanium M16-12. but they dont make one.. :(

I thought about getting the M16-14SF. I'll check those knives out Confederate. Also I think that it's odd that their sharpener doesn't work with their own knives.

I also have a pair of Cold Steel Pro Lite tantos with the serrations. The Pro Lite are all black, which I like my knives to be. I remember reading that the AUS 8 blades are better than the 440 series blades. They just feel solid.

I seen some people not having a good reponse to the CRKT. So I was alittle nervous. I only paid $55 for the knife on Ebay.:D

If the knife works out I'll purchase another one to have two. I usually carry one on each side.

I think the Pro-Lites were great knives. I have a number of them, and when I show my knives to people who aren't into knives, the Pro-Lites always get a lot of attention. They also have some of the most comfortable handles I've ever felt on a knife.

How much better is AUS8 than 440A? Well, AUS8 is a better stainless, but every 440A knife that Cold Steel has ever produced have come with viciously sharp blades that are easily resharpened. And if you have the ones with serrations, so much the better. In short, whether it's the Night Force, Pro-Lite or whatever, the blades tend to be exceptional. I've used them to cut cardboard, strip wires, and even lop off small branches and the things stay as sharp as I could hope. If I had to cut carpet, or thick plastic day in and day out, I'd probably want something a bit better, but the Pro-Lites are knives you can bet your life on, and they're tough as nails.

In fact, I'd go so far as to say that I'd prefer a 440A from CS than an AUS8 from CRKT. I can never get a CRKT as sharp as a Pro-Lite, nor can I keep it as sharp. But the CRKTs are good weapons and adequate cutters. The M21-04 doesn't have serrations and has a V-grind, and they do a lot better for me than the chisel grind with serrations.

I really like the Pro Lites also, too bad that they quit making them. When I had the same LEO friend over one time. He saw the Pro Lites, he was impressed by them. I like the fact that the serrations can cut through a leather coat easy enough.

When I read some of the earlier posts, many people don't like Cold Steel for whatever reason. I don't have one bad thing bad to say about CS. In fact, one of my clips broke when I was moving some furniture around. I made a phone call, told about how much I liked their knives and they're sending me 2 clips for free. They treated me pretty good.

I take my Carbon V Trailmaster on my bowhunting trips, that knife is sharp:eek:!

I agree. If I had to saw someone out of their seatbelts in a car, I'd rather have the serrated Pro-Lite than just about anything else though, truthfully, many knives could do just as well. It's just that I like the Pro-Lite. It's strong and is a fine weapon and tool. When my brother visited me a few years ago, I gave him his choice of a number of nice knives and he instantly picked a Pro-Lite.

Most of the people who don't like CS don't like them because of Lynn Thompson, who thinks using any of his knives is like "using a buzzsaw!" He criticizes his competitors and has thrown a few low blows (for whatever reason) on competitor Mick Strider. There's obviously a "history" between those two, but I don't know what it is. All I know is that I've had good luck with Cold Steel knives, and I don't feel like I have to like a company's CEO to use its products.

Yeah I know what you mean. Lynn Thompson should just keep his mouth shut and let the knives do the talking. I really hate politics, it's just too messy.

My M16-14LE cut through almost anything. I was just messing around and cutting some heavy paper. It slice right through without much effort.:D

My Pro Lites, I've had for over three years. They're still very sharp. They do heavy duty work, like cutting open boxes or just swinging in the air. You know, with the air friction, it's really hard on the blade.:jerkit:
