Why did CRKT discontinue the M16 series with carbon fiber handles?

I'ver never handled or used one. Would anyone care to comment on them?

Did they discontinue them?

I've got one on order right now, so I don't have any personal experience with them YET.

I have two of the small plain edge spear point ones. Incredibly light. I like the textured CF handles better than the smooth variety. It's grippier in the hand and doesn't 'attract' too many scratches and blemishes.

The steel is easy to touch up on the 204.

One thing that people don't like about it is that it doesn't have the Carson flipper. It doesn't bug me though. I think it looks better this way anyway.

Likewise. I almost didn't get the carbon fibre version because of its lack of a Carson flipper. I ended up finding such a good deal online, though, that I couldn't pass it up. And I also ordered a titanium M16 to satisfy my flipper needs!

Got an 11F in carbon fiber 18 months ago. It's light. The blade is ground a little differently than the 13T I picked up yesterday, double bevel as compared to the newer/bigger chisel grind on the serrated side. The 13T also has an upper grind reaching the swedge like a boot knife as opposed to the 11's sabre.
The carbon fiber looks like it's alive with rays of light changing the reflection with subdued irridescence, something that is hard to photograph. But what knife is better in a photo than in the hand? (What woman is better... , ok, a thread for W&C.)
The smaller 11F chipped out when new, a small 1/8 flake popping out when I was cutting a really tough corrugated box. I don't think the 13T will do that because of the chisel grind leaving more material. The Ti handle is a little slicker in grip than carbon, and because of the larger size will push up from my jeans pocket sitting here. My Gerber A/F Covert does the same (it's a 1/4 inch longer) but I haven't lost it yet. Something bigger would probably hop into someone else's pocket. The 11F is always there.
The Carson Flipper is a nice-to-have item. Adjusting blade tension is important to help it out, and a little flick of the wrist gives it a dramatic click so helpful when intimidating ups cartons. I'd like to have gotten the 13F but life has handed me the Ti for less. No problem, be happy.:D

Used to have the -01,
..But... I gave it to my dad...Great little knife, almost flawless design for my uses and the weight was great. Too bad he lost it. It was definately worth it and I will get another one if I can find a good deal on one.

They are listed at the A. G. Russell site as "Discontinued" and are on special.

Get them while you can. I have decided that the design is a bit thick for my tastes and use and that without the "flipper" it doesn't offer any capability over knives I already have.
