CRKT M16 lock integrity

I've read some other posts alluding to the liner locks on CRKT knives as not the most reliable. Does anyone have any more comment on this or personal experience? I first started getting into knives after picking up a CRKT M16 off of eBay on a whim. While I still have lots to learn, it seems to be a fairly secure setup, especially with the LAWKS backup lock thing. Should I be concerned or is it more of a "I heard my uncle's friend's brother might have had a problem" kind of issue?

CRKT's linerlocks is not as consistant as we like, but the consensus is linerlocks aren't the easiest thing to get right. Blades like the CRKT Crawford/Kasper or EKI's CQC7 are known to have inconsistant locks, while other manufacturers tend to have less problems.
From my experience, CRKT's M16's locking surface is rough enough that it is quite reliable compared to others from the same company. Make sure you engage the LAWKS and there should be no problem. YMMV

My non LAWKS equiped M16 locks perfectly. (Locks so the liner engages the tang entirely and no more)

My M-16 engages so well that in the beginning, it took a screwdriver to pry it open. A little sandpaper fixed that...

I did have a CRKT lightfoot designed M-1 where the lock would go with just light spine pressure.

I've had and carried an M-16z3 for over a year and haven't had any problems with it. For the money, probably one of the best production knives I've had.

I've owned an older M16 and currently own an M1 and have never had a problem with the lock failing. I know others have mentioned they've had problems disengaging the M16 liner lock and I've experienced the same thing but it seemed to work itself out the more I used it. Overall CRKT knives with the AUS 8 blades are good values IMO. Some of ther designs are really appealling but I'm just not into AUS 6.

I have an M16 04 that I've had for quite a while and its seen a lot of use. I swear that knife has the smoothest action and best lockup(as far as liner locks go) of any knife I have. It does'nt have the LAWKS and I'm glad because it would just be stuff it did'nt need. Love this knife its my edc.

I have a limited edition carbon fiber handle large M 16. I cant say I use it much. The lock seems secure enough and I would feel comfortable using it if I had to.
I think this bad rep the CRKT is getting is from another model. Its just that when people make a complain they dont specify and say CRKT has bad locks (instead of saying the "CRKT model whatever has a bad lock.")

I had some overengagement problems with my old, beat up M16Z, but never slippage (it didn't have LAWKS.)

I had seriously bad slippage problems with an M1... so bad I returned it the day I got it.

I have no problems at all with my Cruiser, but if I'm going to do anything with wiggling, I'll throw the LAWKS on, every time.

Funny, it's like the thread about Puukko... I can remember to put the LAWKS on but I can't remember to not do push cuts with a puukko. ;)

Check to make sure that it has a good closing detent (ball detent) also. I've had a couple of CRKT knives were this was a problem. You don't want to have that knife opening in your pocket.

GarageBoy,

Oh, dear, no... sorry. Bad reference to another thread:
http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=313814

I'm just laughing at myself because when I do push cuts with a guardless knife, my hand ends up sliding onto the edge. So it's a dumb thing on my part that I always remember to put the LAWKS on, but I never remember to be careful (and one of those things is to avoid strong push cuts) with puukko.
