CRKT M16 Special Forces not for pocket?

Can someone explain the reasoning behind the caution that CRKT has at the bottom of the decriptions of all of the special forces knives? Something like "These knives were not designed for pocket carry...". Does the additional flipper cause the blade to open in the pocket or?

I think the additional flipper would eat the edge of your
pocket. All of the M16 models have a "Carson flipper" with
teeth on the ends of the flippers for added grip. I have
the similar M1 model that has a toothless "Mayko flipper"
instead of the standard "Carson flipper".

Well I will find out soon enough, I bought the M16-14 SF model. I can do belt carry, but I will try pocket carry as well I just think it's strange that a folder would have such a disclaimer.

Sometimes when pulling the knife from a shirt or pants pocket the "flipper" will activate causing the blade to paritially open -

Thereby cutting/poking/slicing either the clothing material or one's neck or face if you're whipping it out without much thought to do this, that, or the other thing.

Doesn't happen much I suspect, but enough that they don't want the liability. However, if you know something is potentially dangerous in this fashion it - anymore - isn't enough to simply stamp a disclaimer on it.

Know your gear and wear / use it accordinly and you will have few problems.

My crkt w/ the toothy flipper ate my pockets to death, not just the flipper but the checkered thumbstud helped. as far as the flipper opening the knife i have had no probs.

Have you seen the warning on the top of ladders? In effect, "If you stand here you may fall."

Have you seen the warning on knife sharpeners? In effect, "If you sharpen a knife, it will be sharp and you may be cut."

What lawyers tell their clients to put on their products has little relation to practicality.

Definitely off topic but... As a kid I had (still do) a 'big bang' carbide cannon. The barrel was embellished with a sticker containing the wisdom, "Do not look into barrel of cannon when firing". Awww, dag nabbit anyways...

Warning on some gasoline cans: "Do not use to clean clothing when wearing the clothing."

Warning on clothes drier: "Do not use to dry pets."

All these warning are frustrating Natural Selection. ("Look in here while I fire the cannon." :D)
