Hi there guys. I have a bit of a silly question to throw out there, but here it is-I have a CRKT M16-00 CF and was wondering what in the Spyderco line it could be compared to? The knife is Acuto 440 blade steel I think but don't evenknow what this steel is in comparison to other steels(just starting to learn about this). It is a PE tanto with a blade length of about 2.5" . In your opinions, is this knife even on the radar in comparison to any Spydercos? I am saying Spyderco as it's really the only company I have had any number of knives from in the past. Thanks for any input.

M16s should be AUS8 on that one. It compares to the Spyderco Military, etc, as well as the BM's series of AXIS G10 on liners knives, if not directly

There M16 is good knife and many people seem to like it alot. IMO the M16 is on the "radar" so to speak, however, If I had the choice I would almost always pick a Syderco, but that's just me.

The M16 is a superb knife in many ways, but if it's steel you're looking at, you'll almost definitely get a better deal from Spyderco. I've been growing less impressed with the AUS steels myself lately. Nonetheless, in my experience, CRKT's fit and finish is much better than Spyderco's. The quality in my CRKTs is just incredible for the price. The ergonomics is excellent on the M16, but this is true for many Spydercos also. I'm not personally a fan of liner locks, not because I don't think they're strong (I've demonstrated that they are, particularly on the M16) but because they're kind of a pain to use relative to the axis and compression lock -and- aren't *as* strong. The M16 does possess what I consider to be one of the absolutely best actions (thanks to its flipper) in the industry for any price. It really is just a magnificently designed little knife. With a higher end steel and an axis lock/compression lock, it would be "the knife" for me.

But you really can't go wrong here. Go play with them in a store and see what you come out liking more.

Not even close. You would be much better off buying an Endura.

essav is correct, the CF '16 s had the acuto 440 steel, i have a M16-00 myself and used to have the larger tanto version, the large one had a lot of flex in the handle IIRC, but locked up well and was a pretty neat knife, i swapped it off though, still have the little '16 , my wife carried it a lot for a while till she got het mini SOCOM elite. i know the '16 was no where near the knife the mini elite is, not anywhere near it.

as far as comparisons to spydie, i would say like a delica myself, if a delica had CF handles anyway, i dont think they lock up as well as spydie though.

i would say they are ok little knives, albeit expensive for CRKT, but not really up to snuff with spydie, better than all the other '16s though except the Ti ones anyway. i would say the acuto is as least as good as the std delica steel.

There are a lot of Spydies I like, but I really am not impressed with the Calypso Jr., Delica, or Endura. Of course, now you can get an S30V Native for cheaper than any of those.

Sorry, I'm used to the AUS 118 designation. Personally, the Caly Jnr fits my hand very well and cuts like nothing else.
Oh yea, Mr Kit Carson, how about a few clip point M16s for CRKT?
