I know that CRKT knives aren't well liked on here that much. However was checking out a Zytel handled plain edge tanto today and it looks pretty nice. I'm thinking about getting one. I was wondering what you guys think of this knife, and do any of you guys have one. Pictures would be nice too if someone has some kicking around.

I only have three CRT knives. One is the M-16 Desert folder and the Craw/Casper Black. I have one fixed blade but son't recall the model. I like them a lot, these are built like a tank.

my brother has this one,

He is a LEO and uses it every day to cut anything and everything including the metal bands on ammo cans etc. I played around with it a bit and it feels very solid, thick blade, tight lockup nice titanium handles etc. One suggestion though, get the drop point, I find it alot more usefull than a tanto.

I have a M16-13T it's damn near indestructible but you can do better, that being said, nothing really wrong with them.

IIRC the Zytel handled ones have blades made from steel with lower edge retention (AUS4?). There have also been some reports of quality issues with the Zytel handled models. Again drawing on memory, I believe that the more expensive aluminum handled models have AUS8 blades and have not had the quality issues.

My advice would be that if you are going to buy a Zytel model, that you try to handle the knife you are going to buy prior to buying it so as to ensure you get one with positive lockup. Another option would be to buy from an online dealer who will check for you. Some of them will. Some won't. It would be worth paying a bit more to contact the dealer prior to the sale and ask him to check for you.

I have a zytel handled one and two aluminium handled ones. I prefer the tougher aluminium handled ones. My Aluminum handled M16 Tanto and another (spear I think, I bought it second hand so I'm not sure) has a nice blade thickness and the liner lock is ok.

However the chisel grind is irritating and the auto lawks is not so nice. I prefer lawks (no auto). I took out my autolawks finally cause it's bugged me for the last time.

The type of steel is Aus 6 and Aus 8 for their M16s. be careful and get the Aus 8 ones. Regarding the titanium handled ones, I think it's better to buy a kershaw or Spyderco for the kind of money it cost for a titanium handled one.

i have am16-12 and i love it to bits aluminium handles and aus8a blade niice

I have the M16-13. Aluminum scales, bought it for a work beater because the price was right. It has remained tight after a year in EDC rotation, not the best knife, but not a bad one either.

Thanks guys, I will be buying it from a store, so I will check it out good before purchasing then.
