Just recieved this in the mail the a.m. from Brian at Disount Knives.
great service and he said I was going to get it when I got it. Outstanding. This is going to be just initial impressions as I have to drag my butt back to work shortly. Here goes:
1) First thing I noticed is the size of the friggin thing. Pics on line do not do it justice! It is one whompin folder. As a matter of fact the size of the blade needs to be seen to be appreciated.
2) The grind lines of the blade are dead nuts on. No run over or run off of lines for the distal taper. They all meet as they should and they are nice and crips and straight.
3) The blade has a perfectly done satin finish to it. With all lettering nice and crisp and centered.
4) The size of the thing as stated earlier is well large! This is where if any bitch I have lies in the fact that I think the handle could be bigger. At least from top to bottom. Thickness is just about perfect.
5) I have the blue G10 inlaid model and I think here the inlays could be better fitted. A couple of gaps around the inlays. No big deal but this knife wreaks of quality and well may be nitpicking but might as well attend to the final details as well. This is my second purchase of a CRKT knife and after getting the Crawford Kasper folder(lg) I didn't think I would buy another one. Just don't like 6M steel for anything. Well this has AUS8 in it so that is a definite step up. It is sharp too!
6) The liner lock fails after a couple of whacks but with the lawks engaged it doesn't move. I will attend to this liner lock thing later. I am sure I can remedy the problem. The knife is oily at the pivot so I am sure this can be taken care. Failed alone after 3 very hard whacks out towards the point. Which is the only way to test a liner lock at all. The lawks device is well fitted almost like the safety on my CCO. What I really don't care for on the knife and this is just personal as I haven't ever had a knife like this is the guard on the lower part of the knife. I know this is a trait of Carson knives but I would rather not have it there. May have to talk to someone in the model shop at work about that.
7)The scales have a nice orange peel texture to them with 0 gaps anywhere around the knife itself. The blade is centered perfectly too. Works on the pivot very well indeed. Not quite as nice as my SERE 2000 or my AFCK but probably as nice as any I have had as of late.
8) Last but not least the blade edge cantle is perfect on both sides and right at the choil the knife cantle is perfectly done in the center.
I will give a more detailed rev. as I use the knife and will try and get used to the flipper. I also may have to mill out the G10 as this thing calls for some mother of peal or bocate`inlays. All I can say is that I can't belive they can build this knife for what they are charging and have the quality as good as this is. Keep'em sharp
