Hey y'all. So, I'm sitting on Amazon right now looking at all the results in front of me since I searched CRKT M21.

Can someone elaborate on all the different variations of this knife? There seems to be a bunch, and the prices go up and down, as well.

Thanks in advance

As far as I can tell, the variations are pretty much in the following:

Blade shape - clip point or "deep bellied" spear point; I think there's a tanto one too but that might be the M16

Blade steel - either AUS-8 or 8Cr14MoV

Handle scale - mostly G10 but I think there are aluminum ones as well

Serrations - come in plain, combo or their "Veff" serrations

Flippers - single or double

I personally own the M21-14DSFG and the M21-14SFG. Got them at a good price and they're fun to play with but too big and heavy for EDC IMO.

I carry a M21 04 as a EDC work knife. Most of em have aluminum handles, they also had G10 and I think 1 with titanium. Other than that they also have differnt steels, double or single flipper, and serrated of not. Mine is the base style, aluminium handle single flipper plane edge. Its my favorite large EDC.

get the small m21 aluminum handles plain edge 3 in blade AUS-8 (personal fav) it is lighter than the G10 and virtually maintenance free

Wow gee, so many too choose!

So, I was browsing my "local" brick and mortar store the other day, and I saw two M21s.

One of them was ridiculously big and the other one was the one that furfmonkey posted about.

I really like how they look, reminds me of the Kershaw Skyline. Autolawks is pretty cool, too.

get it you wont regret it ... ive actually batoned mine and it survived fine

The one I like is the M21-04. It's the spear point, no serrations and no extra hilt. These knives are splendid and it's one of my favorite knives, period. The one thing I would add is that if you're looking for an EDC, you might want to consider the Byrd Cara Cara or the Cold Steel Voyager in 4-inch versions. The Byrd comes with a G10 scales model and fiberglass. I prefer the former.

I found that though I liked the CRKT, it was just a bit too big and heavy for everyday carry. It is a knife that should be in your collection. The problem is that they've gone up in price dramatically over the last year or so.

One tip: Stay away from the tanto. CRKT puts a nasty chisel edge on their tantos and if you're right handed, cutting anything like wood just doesn't work. They put the edge on the LEFT side, making it difficult to cut.

Thanks, for the heads up about the grinds! I didn't know of this until now.

I have owned that model in the M16 blade shape (spearpoint). I totally agree. That knife survived me for many years. Actually indefinitely. It was a friend who lost it. Good beater.

That tip came in handy today. I went knife shopping and the tanto I looked at was indeed left handed. Luckily they had a S-2 in the case for $20 cheaper so I got it.
