I was looking into both blades and I'm having a hard time choosing maybe one of you can help me,both are very similar in design and materials

CRKT M60:
4.5 inch AUS-8 Steel blade
Zytel handle
Zytel and cordura nylon sheath
$45.00-$60.00

Gerber Prodigy
4.8 inch 420HC steel blade
Rubber overmold on hard substrate handle
Molded plastic (kydex?) and nylon sheath
$40.00-$50.00

Which would you recommend?

The handle of the M60 is only for smaller hands.
The sheath is a bit over-engineered.
I had one.

The Prodigy gives you more finger space and more spine for splitting a bit wood.
I like the glass breaking tang.
I would pick one up instantly if it did not have those serrations.
Also, Bear G. used it in one season, so it must be the best knife in the world ... ;)

I have the Prodigy, and its a solid user and good value. Mine serves as my vehicle knife. I too prefer no serrations but they harm nothing. I think that you would be happy with the Prodigy.

@Gambrinus
Thanks man I appreciate the input,I'm probably gonna go with the Gerber

@powernoodle
Thanks dude,I'm most likely gonna get the Prodigy

I have been unimpressed with the quality of Gerber 420HC.

If I were looking for a blade in that style, I'd look at a Buck Nighthawk. Buck does a very good job with their 420HC. It's likely $5-$10 more, though.

I'd go with the Nighthaw, too, for that style of knife. A couple more bucks, but well worth it. Of the two you posted, I'd go with the Prodigy. It'd be nice if they made one without serrations. Same with the Gerber LMF2.

...I'm probably gonna go with the Gerber...
beta464, I agree with these guys on Gerber's 420HC (not so hot), but if you can find an older 12C27 Prodigy :thumbup: Gerber does a better job with this steel, if you haven't already made the purchase.

If I were going to pick up a knife in that style I'd look hard at the Buck night hawk. I have one on the way right now.
If leather doesn't bother you look into the Ontario Pilot survival knife. Then there's the SOG Seal Pup as well :)

If I had to choose between those two, then prodigy, hands down.

I almost bought the Infantry, which is basically the same knife.
