I saw this on http://www.testingear.com/html/crkt_merlin.html, my german is bad but it seems to be a very original folder sheath. Anybody have any experience with it.

Hello...

What is is suppose to do??
doesn't look like much..

After looking at it a little more,, it looks pretty stupid...
Are you suppose to carry yourt knife half open ?
ttyle

Eric...

ya, 1/2 open. fall on it and you get stabbed
i said it was the stupiest thing ever when i first saw it. gangsters have been doing it with their buck 110s for years.

It doesn't look like a very safe way to carry a knife, in my opinion.

Here's the hype according to CRKT:

Excerpts from the review at equipped.org: The clip is designed to clip into a pocket or waistband, etc., or onto a belt or shoulder strap up to two inches (51 mm) wide. The point of the blade is inserted into a recess in the sheath with a sliding wedge to ensure it is a tight fit. The handle is then folded over and closed on an ear on the side of the sheath wedging it as tightly as possible. Once in place it is fairly well secured and takes a strong jerk to pull it loose, it isn’t going to fall out or be easily dislodged. With the knife in place, this can leave a small portion of the blade exposed, which might imperil a small finger, so best not to use this around curious or clingy young children if your knife is one of those that does so. If there’s a notable drawback to the concept, it is that the same features that make this quick draw sheath so easy to deploy from also leave your knife exposed such that it could be grabbed by someone else. For some potential uses, especially for law enforcement personnel, that may be a concern. In addition, it most definitely is not sheeple friendly.

I tried it last year at a show here. Don't like it.

In fact, I thought it was the most ridiculous accessory for a knife that I've ever seen.

Even the CRKT rep didn't seem entirely keen on it.

well, isn´t that funny. Same discussion going on on a german forum.

For those who have tried it and say "not for me"... OK. For those ho haven´t done so... go and do it.

It is a nice gadget, a new approach to the topic "quick draw sheath" and certainly not useful for everyone. There could be a follow-up model that covers the "pinky skinning triangle". Who knows.

The knife clipped to my pants is drawn just as easily as the knife in the merlin, but i might fail to notice.

But I guess we all spent much more money on things that are less useful.

i still think it's a nice way to
a. cut yourself
b. lose your knife
c. screw up your lockback

In the era of thumbstuds, round and oval blade holes, and spring assisted opening, along with pocket clips and "flippers" built into the blade, and the ability of many knives to be "waved", not to mention automatic knives for those who can legally carry, damn if this CRKT Merlin product doesn't seem a bit redundant!

In some areas folding knives must be carried completely closed. That product is pushing a few local knife ordinaces.

Get a fixed blade if you need that extra 1/10 of a second to deploy your knife.

I have a merlin and I'm pleased with it's funtion, my work has me pulling
out my knife all the time and the merlin makes it less of a hassel then digging
it out of my pocket all the time..maybe not for everyone but great for
some....Zoo
