CRKT "metallic" blade coating

The postman just brought me a couple of CRKT Apache II's that I won on E-bay for a total of $37 (great deal!). They read "Limited Edition" on the blades, which are black-coated. Now, I'm not crazy about black blades, but I do prefer them to the usual CRKT bead-blast. What's unusual about this coating though is that the blades actually have a sparkle in the coating: a definite metallic effect. It's very attractive. I'm wondering if this is something new, or a different application of teflon, or what?

Hey guys...am I the only one on this forum that has any of these knives? They really are pretty.

Shivey,

I have never seen them in person but I just checked my catalog and they have the "Limited Edition" Apache series. I can see the difference in the finish that you are speaking of. In the pic it looks kind of like "spots" or "sparkles" in the coating. My catalog lists it as a "Black Teflon" coating. It lists the MSRP at $74.00-$94.00, however, this is probably not true and I am sure the MSRP is probably lower. Sorry, thats all the info that I have.

Hey Louis, thanks for the response! The vendor who auctioned the knives (S. J. Distributors) said the MSRP was $85. I seen another identical knife up for auction, and that seller said the MSRP was $75. So your catalogue must be pretty much on the mark. I feel that $37 for two of'em was one of the better deals I've ever gotten on a knife. Both were extremely sharp OOTB with no QC issues. I'm particularly pleased I was able to get the middle-sized knife 'cause I'm a big fan of the Apache series, and I now have all three of the sizes CRKT offers - although my other two Apaches have beadblasted blades. I'm really surprised I have'nt read any reviews or comments on this new blade-coating; it looks much better than the usual flat-black. I just hope it wears well, time will tell. BTW, I bookmarked your website, may be hollering at you! :)
