Hey fellas, I'm kinda on the fence about getting a new mini folding razel from CRKT. I like the blade shape and its almost begging to get it's scales swapped.

It probably won't see much pocket time, but i just want it! :D

I just need a nudge in the right direction...any info will help my decision especially regarding the blade shape.

Thanks!

I was thinking about getting one a while ago but I really got hung up on the fact that I'd be using a folder to perform chisel related tasks and it just didn't seem right to me. Figured putting such lateral pressure on a knife would be better suited for a fixed blade.

I have the ringed fixed-blade version; it's one of my most useful knives, and gets carried all the time. Turns five-minute jobs into five-second jobs, and greatly reduces the time you spend looking for the proper tool.

All the same, applying the concept to a folder never made much sense to me. The strength of the razel design is its ability to chisel and pry - things you should never do with any folder, regardless of blade shape.

My advice would be to forego the folder and get the stubby fixed version; it's pocket-and-sheeple-friendly, and among the more useful knives out there.

I handled one and was surprised by the quality and design. The thumb studs are used as a stop pin so that at least adds to the amount of lateral stress the folder can take due to relieved pressure off of the pivot. It's a relatively cheap folder, which is a huge plus in my book. I say get it and put it through the ringer and see if it works as designed. You won't lose out too much if it doesn't work. I may have to do that myself in time.

I have a 'stubby folding razel'
It's pretty solid feeling, but I'll probably use it more for scraping than prying.

I have the folding stubby w/ the rams horn and the mini fixed. I'm really impressed by the quality. And they are inexpensive and well put together. I've been carrying the stubby folding in my left slacks pocket, sebenza in right front for months. Both the folding and fixed catch arm hair above the skin.

That's probably what I'm gonna have to do! Haha...sebbie on the right and subby on the left.

Thanks guys, I'll give it a go. I just made an "inexpensive" purchase in the form of a Kershaw Skyline a few days ago and it already developed blade play while closed so I'm looking for something else to scratch the itch.

Bladeplay while closed? How often do you use you knife when it's closed?
