Anyone have any experience good or bad with this knife? I am looking for a relatively cheap dressy EDC and I thought that would fit the bill providing its not a junk.

We have sold a few of these models, and although they look good and feel solid, the quality isn't there in my opinion.
We got one back where some screws had fallen out, and three separate other customers complained about edgeholding problems.
Could be due to the use of AUS4 or AUS6 without proper heat treat.
The steeltype was not written on the blades by the way.
Anyway, i removed the model from our website to prevent further problems.

It says on their site that the steel is 420J2 is that any better than the AUS 4 or 6? I will look to something else because of the screws falling out but I dont know steels very well at the moment.

Ok then I will avoid those knives like the plague. Thank you both for the info. Are there any suggestions for a knife that would better fit this bill?

Does it have to be in production currently? The benchmade 705 is a very good small blade that is easily concealable and has a thin profile. And there's the bulletproof thing too!

the 705 or 707 (same handle shape as 705 but thinner aluminum scales with a wider blade shape, replaced the 705) are quite a bit more expensive than the Mt. Whitney but are SOOOOO much better. I have a Mt. Shasta which is a smaller version of the Mt. Whitney and it's just ok. The blade steel is crap as far as edge holding goes and the handle is far to thick and not comfortable on a knife this size. I also EDC a BM 707 and it is multiple times better than the CRKT. just a really solid, fairly dressy, very useful knife for EDC that is big enough to do what it needs to do yet small enough not to scare people. They usually run a little over $100. Some like the 705 better for its thicker G10 scales but the blade shape is a little to narrow for my taste.
I much prefer the wider more 'leaf-shaped" blade of the 707.

What about the Benchmade Vex? Does anyone own one of these? Is
8cr14mov good steel?

the vex is pretty good. made in china if that makes a difference to you. The steel is decent as well, comparable to AUS-8 from what I've heard. Its a good value and an upgrade from the CRKT to be sure but its not as nice as some of the blue or black class benchmades or some other spyderco's in that price range. $50 will get you a lot of spyderco for your money, namely the delica!!!
