i was looking around for an assisted opening folder for an edc, normaly i dont like crkt and the steel they use for there blades, as well as reports of faulty locking machanism that caused some serous damage to fingers (i think this happened to someone on this forum) but after looking around i found that i didnt like SOG or Kershaw any better (same problems with steel guality, blade size or just too much plastic) so i was wondering what your impressions are of the CRKT MY TIGHE is it a reliable knife? how does the grip feel? as far as the blade goes is it sharp and does it hold an edge well?

and lastly is it possible to take of those ugle @ss zytel scales??????:D

this is the model im looking at

I bought the plain edge on a whim about a month ago. Its alright. Love the blade profile though. I haven't been able to really test out the blade steel yet. Its 1.4116, which I haven't heard too much about, but it doesn't hold an edge all that well (I think its similar to 420J) You'll have to resharpen often.

And yes, the scales do come off. Although, the knife feels better with the scales on. Ugly, but functional I suppose. I carried mine sans the zytel scales for about a week. Looked better, but it was too thin without the scales to get a good grip.

The assisted opening is nice, and the blade springs out with authority and satisfying "thwack".

If you're looking for an assited opener about the same size, I would suggest the a kershaw avalanche (little more pricey, but grippy g10 scales and waaaaay better steel in s30V) or the blur (in the same price range as the CRKT, but also with slightly better steel, 440A I think).

its sweet looking and its got ao to boot. get it i say. unless of course you want to use it for heavy edc-ing stuff (eg: chopping wood, bla bla bla) cause then the edge will be terrible in holding its edge. for cutting paper and such, its pretty much perfect.

or if you really have the cash, get a custom brian tighe knife...

I just handled this knife at an out of town store today, and I must say that I'm impressed. It was very sturdy, no blade play, and I loved the AO. He had it priced at $99, which didn't seem like an unreasonable price for what it felt like in my hand. However I came back home today and saw that you can get one for about $50; I don't think you should pass up this knife.
