I'VE NOTICED THE CRKT HAS A LINIER LOCK COMPARED TO THE CS BACK LOCK.CS SAYS THE BACK IS STRONGER.I DO HAVE THE CS VOYAGER 4" SERATIONS.BUT I WANT TRY SOMETHING ELSE FOR A CARRY KNIFE.WHAT DO U GUYS LIKE OR SUGGEST.;)

I have mostly liner locks, but I don't think I would change my decision about buying a knife based on the type of lock that it has (unless it was really of poor quality). There's a lot of different lock options out there (liner, rocker, arc, axis, etc.), but it usually comes down to personal preference. Keep in mind that it's not just lock vs. lock, it also comes down to things like handle design and quality of knife. I've had around five or six CRKT liner locks and never worried about any of them failing (never owned a Cold Steel folder), and I'm actually looking to buy an M18 which is a liner lock.

You might hear something different from someone who's a "hard user," but I hope that helps.

i would get a BM AFCK from www.newgraham.com for about $70, and forget about crkt/cs myself.........the $ is about the same, and ya get 3X the knife.

example - ya get ats34 steel vs aus6 (crkt) or whatever cs has laying around that week

G10 vs zytel/plastic/? handles

dual ti liners on the AFCK 800 series

just a better knife, if ya dont believe me compare - when i first got into knives i spent way too much $ on cs/crkt, wish i woulda stuck w/spydie/BM, they are hard to beat for the $$ imho, and a lot better knife than anytyhing cs/crkt has to offer imho

I have an m16 and i feel very comfortable with the linerlock.

It also has the integral hand-guard which prevents your hand from slipping into the blade. This has the added bonus of preventing the knife from closing(it would have to shove that quarter inch of blunt steel through your index finger).

Some crkt models also have the LAWKS safety lock, which pretty much is impossible to fail. Seems like it would be almost as strong as a fixed blade when you have that engage, and they put it on quite a few diffrent knives(prowler, craford/kasper fighting folder, m18, just off the top of my head).

and my m16 and the m18 are both aus-8 steel, so is the pro version of the fighting folder. and they all three have aluminum handles(m18 has g-10 inserts and the m16 fire-department version is red g10 handle) at about half the price of the afck:)

I love the CRKT M16 Kaw Enforcement model. Its strong, sharp and made well. I have a Crawford/Kasper as well, also an excellent knife albeit in AUS6. I have carried and used an M13 CRKT for a number of years as a working street cop until replaced it with the M16. Value for money yes. The LAWKS system on these knives is great and is a huge peace of mind if you believe the liner lock is not enough. A lot is said about knives for self defence etc. You need super steels etc. The truth is any sharp object can kill. Most murders are commited with cheap rubbish or a kitchen knife. I am not saying buying a cheap knife is all thats necessary. I like knives and have many. Just don't get caught in the mind set that the fancier your equipment the better you will be able to defend yourself.

I agree with Sifu1A, that AFCK is an excellent choice. However, if you can find a CRKT large Apache (ATS-34, alum. handle) you'll have a very comparable knife for less $. If you like lock-backs, check out the Spyderco line and steer clear of CS, JMO.

THANKS ALL OF U GUYS FOR THE INPUT.I WILL CONSIDER ALL THE OPTIONS.AS FOR CS. IT IS A GOOD WORKING KNIFE I PUT IT THROUGH HELL.AND FOR THE $$ IT'S NOT TO BAD.JUST WANT SOMETHING DIFF TO CARRY AND ADD TO MY COLLECTION,THE M16 +18 SOUND COOL.I GUESS I'LL HAVE TO HUNT AROUND.....THANKS :)

And BTW i own some CS and CRKT knives, both are great for the money but i prefer CS fixed blades and CRKT folders, i own a M16 and a M18, both have worked flawlessly and im sure both would serve you well.

You might want to take a look at a Spyderco Delica, Endura, or a Native.:).

I have the larger of the Pat Crawford's Point Guard models by CRKT. I like the feel of it. But I'm waiting to see if it'll hold up like my Gentleman's SOG, which I bought in the mid-80's & have carried almost continuously since.

I bought the CRKT for the same reason I bought the SOG. They seem to be a most excellent balance of cost and value.
