CRKT PECK or other "dainty" clip knife

It seems the girlfriend is always needing to borrow my knife. She has discovered the usefulness of a pocket knife and it's time for one of her own.

After handling a couple, she liked the CRKT PECK because of the size and the pocket clip. However, it seems gripping this knife too hard will disengage the lock, which was a big turn off for her.

So what's a tiny, sturdy, clip knife?

It's pretty tough to beat the little spyderco Spin for a mini pocket or purse knife, imho. Strong framelock, excellent VG-10 steel, extremely sharp, and only weighs 1.35 oz. - just under 50 bucks at New Graham. (shown actual size below)

BTW-Stay away from the PECK or KISS knives. You're right about them disengaging when they are gripped hard - I have a nasty scar on my finger to prove it.

I purchased a Spectra Peck for my 15 year old.
She loves it and thinks it is ultra cool.

I think it is too small for real cutting.

But the Ladybug and Benchmite II are much better knives and can be used for real cutting, but they do not have a clip.

The Chive is small and AO, at the same size with a clip.
A slick sturdy knife, and pretty in pink for a lady.

How about a SOG Twitch? A lockback is virtually impossible to disengage when gripped hard and/or twisted.

The PECK really isn't designed for heavy use. It's great for cutting open plastic bags or cord. The small size is a plus for having it clipped to a key ring. However, as stated earlier, it will disengage in a heartbeat if twisted. So, no twisting or prying!

For more serious use, a Spyderco Navigator or Benchmade mini-grip would be a good way to go.

how about a smith & wesson baby frame lock. has everything you are wanting and wont break the bank!,,,VWB.

Second the Spin and Women like the opening holes better than studs (easyer on their fingers)

Would a Boker Subcom be too big? That's seems pretty ideal for her uses.

I third the Spin, however I'd recommend the acid etched version for $10 more, as it provides extra grip, and shouldn't scratch as easily if dropped in a purse with keys and what-not. And IMO the VG-10 is a better choice than the AUS8 on the Subcom... for her it would depend on her use though, I suppose.

I carry one myself, and it takes care of all of your average tasks -- obviously you wouldn't skin a deer with one.

I think she'd love the Spydie hole, as it is easier on your fingers and the frame lock would be easy to use, but very difficult to unlock on accident (and it's a very "pretty" knife :P)!

I picked up a Spyderco Poliwog a couple weeks ago for my gf and she loves it. When she first showed it to me in a store I thought it looked too artsy to be functional but I've picked it up for tasks here and there since and its a really comfortable knife that fits the hand like a glove. Can't go wrong with the VG-10 steel either.

I would second the Subcom or the Wharcom, although the Spin, Twitch II and Poliwog are all nice knives. My Wharcom is one of the most comfortable knives I have... it is surprisingly hand filling for such a small package.

You can add a clip to almost any pocket knife pretty easily if you want, or you could send it to a knife modder or maker for such a task. If you find a knife you and her love but doesn't have a clip.

A little on the pricey side, ($200) but the Maserin Damascus Spirit is a great knife, luckily I won mine on a BFC member giveaway. :D

That's the #1 reason the pricey part didn't bother me.

BTW they do make it without the Stainless Damascus for about a third of the price.
