So, my crkt m-16 I purchased a while back broke. The thumb studs came apart... I emailed CRKT about it and they said it's because their thumbstuds are "pressed". SO, if I want it fixed I have to send it back to them and they'll repress them or replace the knives. Is this normal for thumb studs? Are they always pressed?

No, some are two piece screwed studs, like on all the Benchmades I've seen. Those can come undone more easily, but they can be put back together. It's rare for the pressed studs to come apart on decent knives, but it does happen. CRKT doesn't have a great reputation for quality, though, so this may be more common with them.

That stinks. This has not happened to any of my CRKTs, but I stopped carrying them a while back.

Maybe epoxy or gorilla glue?

I tried some gorilla glue... it ended up falling apart and one of the studs got lost:/ Last CRKT I'll ever buy prob.

For the price, nothing wrong with CRKT products, decent material, great shapes all at a great value, sorry they can't all be ZT and Spyderco. It broke, a lot do, they said they would fix or replace, what's wrong with that? Never seen a caged ball lock fail?

The problem is that it broke after a week of sitting in my pocket. It broke when I dropped it on the ground... Just not my kinda knife.

+1^ Been my experience also. for the price, they are not bad knives.most non-knife nut people are happy with them.
and the fact that CRKT IS Willing to fix or replace the knife says the company cares about its costumers.

Came apart...AFTER you dropped on the floor, and you'd ditch the knife after they offered to fix, :chargrined: ok I'll let it go but I don't see your logic.

Haha, well... I might stick with em we'll see...

I just find the whole idea of dropping a knife and it breaking as cheap. but that's just me. Not arguing, just giving you my honest opinion.

Yeah, every company slips up once in a while. If they make the effort to correct their mistakes and take care of their customers, I don't see why you'd want to stop buying from them. Dropping a knife is also likely to damage it, no matter how expensive and high quality it is, too. That being said, I don't buy CRKT's anymore because they're not a good value; for the prices they charge you can get much better knives.

hmmm.....you may just have got a bad one or something....I have 2 of these m16s (I have since upgraded to zt, but that is a different reason). I carried one for a year or so, it was always tough as hell. I only managed to lose the pocket clip. I remember having it tossed around, dropped on asphalt, etc... and nothing being wrong with it. Send it in and have them take a look at it, might as well get it fixed, if you don't want to, send it to me, i am glad to have any knife :D

Never had a problem with thumbstuds on any of my CRKT's, or any quality issues with them. I've never had any thumbstuds come apart on me, but I guess I could be lucky.

I get the disappointed part, but........

Drop any knife at the wrong angle and it will have problems, regardless of brand.

Let crkt fix the problem. I've beat on a bunch of m16-14sfa and other versions of this knife and they've taken it all and are still going.

I like the looks of alot of CRKT's knife designs. I've never bought any though.
I wanna hear more good stuff about a company before i buy.
But just me.
If they OFFERED to fix it, dont pass that up!

Sounds to me like the OP needs to find a knife he can hold onto better.

What was going on when this knife hit the ground? If you can work out what it was that made the knife come loose in the first place, you may be able to find one that will stay put better.

Just pulling it out.
