What is your opinion on this CRKT - Prowler knife. The local gun store has them on sale and would like to know your guys opinion.

Nice, heavy-duty folder. I really like the blade shape, which is all around useful. Very good lock up on mine. LAWKS is an added safety bonus. The blade is AUS6M, which in my experience is a decent steel, but not the best edge holder. The handle has good ergonomics.

My only two gripes are: 1) Being a heavy duty knife, it is thick and weighty. You will probably notice this one in your pocket. 2) The way the thumb opener groove is situated, it makes it more difficult to clamp a guide on the spine of the blade for sharpeners like a Lansky. Not a real big deal, but a minor annoyance.

Hope this helps.

I wouldn't bother, simply because I have had other CRKT's with AUS-6, and know how they perform.
Were I to rate it, it would recieve a 'meh' at best.

An averager performer I would say but a good knife at its price point. You get what you get with AUS6M and Zytel. Not saying they're inferior materials but there is better out there if more extreme performance is of concern to you.

And to think I was nearly able to pull off a custom version this year. One sweet knife.

other than weight the prowler is ok, like all crkt's it isnt the greatest thing on the planet, but for the intended use (cutting stuff) they are ok, not a BM/spydie/etc, not even a cold steel, but wayy better than some POS knife, i wouldnt pay a whole lot (ihave seen prowlers for $25 to $35 in the for sale forum ) if ya can get a good deal, and the design grabs ya, its ok.

I've had one for several years. I use it strictly as a utility knife and it has performed well.

I would say it is better than a cold steel, and I am very happy with mine. I have even taken it apart several times to clean and lube without problem. Very stout, and I can't get it to develop any blade play and I've been EDC mine for around a year now. I do light prying with it, and have never seen the lockbar flex or fail (Forestry career/wildland fire).

Sharpens up quickly with a fine diamond DMT, but I can't seem to get it really "scary" sharp. The blade is pretty thick, however, and may need reprofiling.

All-in-all, I really like this knife. Too bad it never got much exposure. It's a great no-frills work knife. Plus I always liked Marzatelli's work...

My local gun store has them for $14.95 each.

The reason why i wanted to buy one is for a back up for my SS Spyderco Endura and BenchMade Stryker. I only have 2 folders with clips and might be sending my BM back to BM for resharping and a tuneup and do not feel comfortable with only having 1 folder with a clip.

What say you guys...

The gunshop is turnersoutdoorsman

For $14.95, get it. Heck, get two.

Ok guys last question. Of the Crkt Prowler vs Kabar Dozier which one would be best to purchase as a cost effective pocket knife?

What say you?

i would go w/the CRKT the doziers dont have pocket clips IIRC...........therefore they wouldnt suit me very well.
