I have and carry several CRKT knifes.
For the money they seem to be good little users but not anything I would consider to be overly collectible
There is one knife I have that seems to be a little different, I'm not sure if it's because I have never seen one any where else .
It is a model 7012LE
It looks just like the S-2 but has a blue anodized scale and the blade is in the black teflon. It also has the 1* logo on the blade.
Any of you experts know anything about this knife ? I have carried it twice but since it is no longer in the catalog I have decided to put it away and leave it looking new.

I think what you have is the Law Enforcement "one-ass-to risk" Apache folder with the 1* logo. CRKT also has the Carson designed M16's available with the black teflon coated blade and either blue or olive drab handles.

Does it look like this?:

That's the one
I was told that it uses a better steel than the AUS6 that CRKT seems to be fond of.

The steel on the Apaches are ATS-34 not AUS-6. I think CRKT has recently stopped production on the Apaches but you can still find them. Your particular model has Gary Paul Johnson's 1* logo which is licensed to CRKT. 2 variations are available: Law Enforcement models (blue handles) and Military (olive drab handles). I think CRKT still produces the Carson M16's with the 1* logo.

I have one of the military models of the M-16 in Tanto. It has AUS8 steel and seems to be holding up well
This Apache is a very attractive knife and I like it . I don't carry it as I don't want to have start looking worn out.
Unfortunatly CRKT doesn't make any of these models in a larger size Everything seems to hover around 3"

I've just been looking at SMKW today. No full size Apaches at this time.

I rotate between a Spdyerco Wegner and the large Apache as my primary self defense knife. The Wegner gets the nod more often, but that's simply because I like it so much. It is quite a bit more utilitarian than is the Apache.

IMO, the Apache is at the top of the list for potential combat knives by CRKT. (I realize this isn't a commonly helf position.) I really like the long handle, that can be gripped in so many different areas/ways. It also is long enough that one can use it as an impact tool at both ends. The blade is obviously made mostly for stabbing. Well, it does come awfully sharp OOB, and it has enough belly to be a fairly wicked slasher too. The blade is relatively thin and has something closely resembling a distal taper. The locks on mine are rock solid.

I am crazy about the little Apache 3, or III. It is cute as can be. Tho I'm not a real fan of combo edges, this was the only edge I could one from SMKW at the closeout price of $15. Mine is a beauty. I can't believe how sharp it seems, and that little blade is like a big needle. I'd hazard a guess that only a couple pound of pressure would be needed to stick that little puppy up to the handle in flesh. It is definitely my "gent's knife." I keep watching SMKW in hopes the plain or fully serrated model will appear.

The Apache 2 is actually a decent sized knife. I think it too would do really well as a self defense blade. It seems smaller than it is, due to the slimness of the Apache.
