Hello!

I am a bit of a knife noob and have a bit of a dilema. Recently my CRKT M-16 (a promotion present from my folks, military) was stolen. I guess somebody needed it more than I did.

Anyways, my job pretty much requires a knife for work, but the military does not see fit to issue me one for one reason or another. I liked the CRKT a lot but I'm not sure if I should try to find a knife with a different locking mechanism. It won't see much prying, as that's not what a knife is for, but in an emergency it may be a requirement.

I am on a pretty tight budget. Anyone have any recommendations on a particular type or know of any military affiliated companies I should refer to?

Sorry to hear about your M16. I had one as a beater for years before a friend lost it. But it lived a good life.

Anyway, in order for us to help you, can you give us more preferences?

Blade length, do you have large hands, do you like thin/thick folders, does it need to be light, does the steel need to go a long time between resharpening, do you like assisted openings, etc etc.

I'll throw out the Kershaw RAM in lieu of that info. It's fairly thin, can be carried tip up or down, left or right, has a tough, smooth lock, fast to open (REALLY fast to open) and close, good ergonomics, respectable steel, versatile blade shape and not so expensive you'll be afraid to use it. 50 dollars.

Actually the more I think about it, the more I think this'll just end up being the right knife for you anyway, so just go buy it.

Sure thing! I should have been a little more descriptive in my first post. I'd like to keep the length somewhere near 3" plus or minus. Hands are probably on the larger side of average, the M16 seemed to fit just fine. Weight is not a big concern for me. Sharpening interval isn't a huge concern, either. Thickness, well, probably not a big deal either.

I'd love to play with an assisted opener someday.

gt what they have at the px =) most places carry the spyderco endura and its a great blade, stood up to ranger school that oughta tell you enough about it :)

+1 for the RAM.

Definitely my favourite knife right now. I have many knives, but almost every day I end up grabbing the RAM.

Sine the OP specified a 3" blade then a Delica would be more in line with his choices than an Endura. The G10 version is sweet if you can afford it.

Kershaw makes some really high value/cost ratio frame lock knives. You couldn't go wrong with almost any of them. The Groove or Junkyard Dog would be good, tough knives.

I've got a beater M-16 that doesn't see much use anymore, I'd be more than happy to send it on to someone serving our country. It's not in the greatest of shape, but it all still works and doesn't look completely horrible. Let me know if you're interested.

I certainly don't want to rob you of a knife unless you're positive you're done with it. If you have no use of it any longer I would be most indebted to you for your help. Please let me know what I would need to provide.

I just found it again the other day, I havent used it in years. If there's someone out there who can use it and will appreciate it I'm more than happy to send it your way. email me your address at cmdionne AT gmail DOT com and I'll send it on its way.

EDIT: Its the M16 13Z if that matters.

That's a really classy thing to do, and I'm ashamed that I didn't think of it first because I've got an old M-16 I'm not using as well.
 to you cmdionne!
