hi, everyone I have a question about the locking on ripple framelock folder. Its a beautiful looking folder and im thinking of getting one soon. before i do that i wanted to make sure one thing. Ive found some images of the framelock bar on the web sites engaging the tang of the blade all the way almost touching the other side of the handle. new folders are supposed to have early lockup. am i correct? how does the lockbar eangage on your ripple framelock folder when out of the box? thanks

I have one, but I actually don't use it, as it is a first production.
So, really this won't be a lot of help, but mine doesn't seem to have that problem. The lockup is perfect.

The only thing is, the knife is way smaller than I thought it would be when I ordered it. Its just too small for me to carry.

It's a beautiful knife though and I enjoy having it.

I believe you may have found a factory defect.

No, they are not supposed to travel that far. The lock bar is supposed to stop when it's outside edge is even with the side of the blade, or, at the most, slightly past it. If the lock bar travels more than halfway up the mating surface of the blade tang, you start to lose some of the strength of the lock, due to the angle of deflection.

In short, get in touch with CRKT. Their warranty service is very good and they should be happy to help.

IIRC, the lock bar on a new knife should cover approx the first third of the blade.
My BM 690 with 154CM was a nearly constant EDC for about 5 yrs, and the lockbar is still short of the halfway thickness of the blade.

Get One, Sometimes Knives Come This Way From The Factory Or Over A LOT Of Use.. Normally Abuse, They Start To Act Up This Way.

The Chances Of Yours Coming With That Issue Are Slim To None, And If They Do, Get A Hold Of CRKT And They'll Take Care Of You. I've Seen Negative Reviews On A Lot Of Knives, But Have Luckily Never Really Had An Issue.
One Persons Bad Luck Says Nothing About The Company Or That Knife Itself. Someone Just Got A Lemon, That's All. This Happens Once In A While With Many Many Many Outstanding Companies.

Don't Worry About It, I'm Sure You'll Be Fine, If You Really Want The Knife, Get It!

I have a small First production run and used it about once a week. the lockbar will move over as it really IMO isn't a hard use knife. mine when using the flipper ends up right at the 50% mark. basically the closest side of the lockbar is inline with the blade. It can however be pushed farther as the tang grind angle isn't as steep to prevent more travel.

overall I think you will not be dissapointed with the knife so long as you keep it within light to medium duty tasks (cutting string - some cardboard, not a lot)

Forgot to mention there are actually 3 different types of Ripples, there is the Walmart ed. (Large), the "Original" ed. (large), and "Original" ed. (Small)

Oh And There Is The New Titanium Ripple!!!!

The Ti Ripple was a Plaza Cutlery sprint run and there arent going to be any more made, at least there hasnt been talk of it. However if you can find one its pretty snazzy with CPM 154 blade

Oh from plaza cutlery. Ill get that for sure if they still have them. Too bad they don't have them anymore.

It was a sponsored run by Plaza, produced by CRKT. Think the Knifeworks benchmade 710 in M390, or the Bento Box Spydie Manix in CPM M4.

If I read this correctly, its not a CRKT Ripple, but an original Ken Onion. Which would be nice. I've not been overly impressed with how CRKT finishes Ti anyway.
No price showing on either site, wonder how much that puppy cost.
