I've just lost my M16 3" edc after the clip got mangled somehow and the knife fell out of my back pocket somewhere. I use my daily carry primarily for cutting cardboard when i make cardboard bales at my work place (dont worry i use a razor blade for casual cutting). I also carry it for self-defense purposes when i have to walk home late at night after work. The model 7 looks like it'd be a good candidate. BTW, i'm looking to spend no more than $90 on my next piece.

I've also considered a Cold Steel Scimitar and a larger M16 spear point (4"). The scimitar looks nice while retaining some practicality. The larger M16 seems like it could serve more purpose than my 3" M16.

Thanks.

If cost is an issue I'd say go with an M16-13Z, with Zytel handles. It's sturdy, keeps its edge relatively well, and although the blade is not quite 4 inches, it's something in between--3.56", I believe.
It comes with LAWKS on the older models (they sell for $30 at WalMart), or AutoLAWKS on the newest ones (maybe $45 from a knife store).
Check them out, I think you'll like them.

well i was really hoping to spend between 60-90. i'm putting the m16-13z on my consideration list.

Thanks again.

Trekon, I was at the Wal Mart knife counter this morning and they had a CRKT M16 tanto blade for $20. I believe it was the M16-13Z but couldn't tell for sure (they just have a picture of the knife with the price next to it). I have a spear point M16 and just might add the tanto for the price.

I had a Ryan - it's wide, which when clipped made crouching or bending over a little constricted. The grip was ok, the handle serrations like Strider's can promote hotspots without gloves. Blade is AUS6, which resharpens easily. CE blades just hang up cutting cardboard for me, as I saw right at the choil for control, so I prefer PE.
The biggest drawback was the slotted handle grips, which occasionally hung up on materials. I gave the knife to my neighbor, and found it one day on his boy's chicken coop where he'd left it cutting roofing shingles. It sharpened up easily, but in the process I noted two of three of the handle screws had fallen out.
If you plan on fiddling with the grips frequently, this would be a candidate, or you could just loctite them in.

Okay I went ahead and ordered a CRKT M21 Large Plain Spear Point. Thanks everybody who responded!
